Well South Sydney have won their appeal, after being kicked out of the NRL....

This certainly will set a precedent for any future sporting organistions/bodies who try and remove teams, especially long standing ones, from the competition.

In fact it is very likely that had this court case happened a few years ago, the AFL would not have been able to force Fitzroy to merge.

There was also a smaller win for an Aussie Rules team ealier this year/late last year, when AFLQ team Mayne won readmittance to the competition thru the courts, after AFLQ had deemded them redundant due to their financial condition.

Anyway congratulations to Souths, and their loyal supporters....a great Victory.

That is huge, although I'm not sure you're right about Fitzroy as the committee had lost control of the club.

Anyway, go Rabbittohs. It's a stupid game, but obviously the supporters are passionate and it's fantastic they've won out.

I don't really understand what this win means. As far as I know, SS are still a long way from being readmitted to the league. The league has to invite them back and if they don't then its back to court again.

I don't see them any closer than they were when the league booted them out.

Good luck to them though!!

Spogs it is more of a moral victory than anything else. It does not mean automatic re-admittance to the competition. What it does mean tho is that the NRL are going to have to reconsider. And that when making that decision, the NRL will be now taking into account that the Courts are morally on Souths side. Either that or the NRL will now appeal this decision and take it to the high court.

Yeah, good luck to the Rabbitoths, were my old team (not that I cared that much) before the Storm joined, because they were rather 'interesting' jumpers like the Hawks and seemed to be a battling club with a loyal group of fans.

I hope they continue the fight - the Hawks and the Bulldogs showed people power CAN win in the end.

Yeh their Jumpers are `interesting` in that they are red and green and nothing like the Hawks which have ****ty colours.

Green with Red horizontal stripes, a good traditional jumper that looks far better than the dog's breakfast's that are gracing the field nowadays.

I hope that the Rabbitohs get in there, they have a lot of juniors and a hard-core group of supporters including Anderw Denton, Mickey Robbins, Mike Whitney and Don Lane and of course Russel Crowe.

Rabbitohs, a nickname that was obviously too Australian for Tsar Rupert Murdoch.

If SS get re-admitted next yr, will the NRL look to adding another team, or play with 15 teams (and a bye)

I say bring back the RAMS!!! :(

I'm glad someone started this thread..

because they beat me to it.
I too thought this was a victory for people power and congrats. to the Rabbitohs.
The NRL have admitted later today that they will be part of the comp. next year, so at this stage it will be at 15 team comp....I personnally don't see that as much as a problem really, but I am sure further down the track, this will be evened up sooner than later.

I wonder how Bloodstained Angel is feeling today:p

Bet he's a happy camper!!

Well I couldn't happier really

Poms smashed in the cricket (men and women)

Wallabies back on top of the Lions

Rafter in the Mens Singles Final

Swans beat the loathsome, salary cap cheating, hardly play interstate Navy Blue scum.

and Souths are back in the NRL !!!!

woo hooo

Ms Storm you might be interested to know that talk here in Sydney is for a 16 team Rugby League Comp. next year.

- Souths back in
- Northern Eagles disbanded
- Manly back in
- New Team for Central Coast (probably a revival of the old North Sydney)

Still too many teams, with too high player wage bills and to littlke playing talent spread too thinly across too manyclubs, BUT with the more traditional clubs like Souths and MNanly back in the competition, at least this is a step in the right direction.

cheers

When I heard the news on radio.....

The first thing that entered my head was BSA WILL BE VERY VERY HAPPY...true!!

I also heard the news re Manly, etc.
I think there will be enough players in league to go around...the quality of rugby league is really high at the moment...and anyway it will be a great chance for more young guys to play league at top level.

Hope you jump on the bandwagon and buy a membership next year. That's what Sydneyites have to learn to do...memberships (as in afl) is the way to go.!!

At this stages Wages and salary cap might be a hitch though!
Great day for you no doubt and good luck next year.
We may one day meet at a Storm vs Rabbitohs match!!
Cheers:p

Good stuff!

Good to see the Mighty Rabbitohs winning their court case!
NSW Rugby League's most successful club (20 Premierships), loyal supporters (who over the last year and a half have showed up to many sports events in their Souths colours to raise support for their cause), and a foundation member of the NSW RL, they deserve their spot in the NRL.
Latest news is that the CEO's of the 14 NRL clubs want Souths re-admitted but do not want any other clubs entered so it looks like 15 NRL clubs for next year.
Other news is that the Northern Eagles merger could be on its last legs and Manly might play alone next year.
The Souths court case opens the door for other merged entities to battle for entry into the NRL though most of the other clubs (St. George, Illawarra, Wests, Balmain, Norths, Manly) don't have the money to fund a court case then field a standalone team.
