Speeding Fines

I think I just got busted going 72 in a 60 zone. I have never had a speeding fine before. How much will I get fined and also how many demrit am I likely to lose?

It will be either 1 or 3 demerit points depending on how far over the limit you were (1 point if it was less than 10 k's over). You might also want to write to the police and request a caution - they will certainly consider this if you have had a good record up until now.

Not too sure how much the fine would be - maybe $150?

Most cars have a 3km lee way (sp?) on their speedo's and most speed cameras do also..

You will probably get done for doing 68 or something along those lines meaning it will likely be 1 demerit point and maybe a $100 fine.

As another poster said, right a 'heartfelt' plea to the police and see if you can get off it. That is assuming you have a good record to this point.

got to be 7km or less over the speed limit to get 1.

I hear people say 10% too, which is a little hard to believe as then 121 would be legal. 10% <60 and 5% at >80 is what I go off when driving in ACT/NSW. Is there any truth that Vic police are more strict? Dunno if it's true, but I've heard they ping you when you're 3km over any limit?

They give you 3kph leeway down here. So if your'e clocked at 63kph they bring it down to 60kph. Anything above that and you're in trouble. I got a couple in quick succession last year. Both were for doing speeds like 64-65kph in a 60 speed zone.
