For all those of us wondering about our recent recruiting/drafting policies, the news that Spida Everitt has undergone knee surgery to remove cartilage and the club "hopes" he will be fit in time to start the 2008 season will surely be of some concern.

I never knew he had problems with his knee. I'm surprised that they've hushed it all up, you got a link regarding Spida's knee surgery?

sorry, no link at the moment, all i can tell you is that he apparently was struggling and showing signs during recent running, which adds to any concerns because it means it's come on, or significantly worsened, SINCE the season finished and the new preseason began
club says it's not serious, everything is fine for him to resume training in time for the start of the season but for a bloke his age and his size, this is not good news at all
apparently the rest of the senior squad are relishing having a preseason that they were able to start much earlier than in recent years, but this everitt news has got to be a worry

the story arrived on news wires not long ago

He'll be fine for rd 1. They said he will only miss 6 weeks so at worst he will just miss NAB cup.

yes, that's what the club says....and your club constantly told the footballing public chris judd wasn't carrying any serious injury
that's the point: clubs are always playing down any hint of bad news, trying to apply the most positive spin, and my fear, certainly seeing as this injury has apparently occurred since preseason training started, is that it is potentially worse than what the club will admit

when is his contract up? i rate jolly more than spider, i would think his days are numbered soon surely

pretty sure he has one more year of a two-year contract

any injury cloud over spida casts a whole different light on our ruck/KPP ranks

If spida misses some games the positive could be that we might actually blood one of the 2005-2007 draftees or if he got placed onto the long term injury list then perhaps even one of the rookies

I don't wish him any harm but should we be off the pace for the next two years (and I am not saying that we will be), then it mightn't hurt for him to miss some games so as to allow the next generation of players through

yes, there IS that bright side, although i have a nasty suspicion we'd go the same way as in recent years and play the likes of goodes or LRT as pinch-hit ruckmen...i spose henry playfair would be another option, but i'm with you, i'd like to see someone like dan currie get a run if it comes to that
but i'm on record as wanting to give dan currie a run anyway

I'm pretty sure we're going to get some of our most senior players rest a couple of games to make way for the young 'uns, but i'd only do this as a last resort if our season is doomed anyway (knock on wood it doesn't happen) or if someone is having a touch and go injury, like Leo and Baz this year.

This is exactly what I was thinking. If Spida did get injured, we can inject a younger player and take a stab at the senior level. Curries springs to my mind and probably White (not too sure if he can do the rucking).

what do y'wanna inject a younger player with? we're not the weagles....ahhh ha ha ha
sorry

as for jesse white, he's a big lad, about 196cm or so, and 110kg, which i think i read a month or so ago was the heaviest in the club
a very big lad, but not quite tall enough to ruck, and that size puts him at some risk of knee injuries from the constant pressure
i'd rather he didn't ruck at all....currie is 200cm or so and far more athletic, much better suited as a ruck and i'd love to see him get a crack

So, for the record we have two potential rucks in development: Currie and Orreal.

no idea about the caravan...i guess he's a ruckman, but let's just get him playing football
but yes, at 205cm you'd think he was a ruckman...in development

He wont need to play NAB Cup. Not many senior Swans player's do. He just needs a run before Round 1 and he should get that. It's better he had it done now than during the season. That would have left us one ruckman short.

lOVE THE SWANS and immensly admire Paul Roos and all the senior players but I am getting the vibe that I am not the only supporter who could tolerate an average year if it meant that we were actually going to see some of our recruits get a go

i'm with you on that, yes

Saw Spida at Sydney airport yesterday pushing a pram. Had an elastic bandage on his knee, no limp or anything like that.........he's a beanpole for sure!!!

Spida will be well and truly fit and ready to go for round 1. His surgery was arthroscopic wasnt it? Nothing too major.

that's what the weagles spent a whole season saying about chris judd's groin
