For those who have played it, is it any good? I mean i have seen all the reviews, had a look at the Splinter Cell website, but i would like to know the views of those who have played it or seen it being played. As you can tell, i don't have it but am thinking of getting it.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield is also being considered, but atm Splinter Cell is running first. I am not that rich.

Splinter Cell is a great game!

It's not the sort of game I'd usually get into (i'm more into arcade-style games Capcom/Sega etc) but Splinter Cell had me hooked for quite a while. (so much so that I stopped playing everything else!)

The concept of the game is basially stealth, and it's done very well. Creeping slowly, quietly shooting out lights, and blending with the shadows is the idea.

It looks very nice (although a little bland at times, but still nice), the controls, in my opinion, are close to perfect for the kind of game it is, and the sound is fantastic.

My first time through the game was a little frustrating at times (not quite knowing exactly where to go) although still very enjoyable, and then I enjoyed it even more the 2nd time through, and even more the 3rd time etc..... (I ended up playing through it 4 times)

I'd absolutely recommend it. :)

Very overrated game.

Wow, what a fantastic contribution!

If you want tactical espionage action you can't look past Metal Gear Solid 2...

MGS2 is a great game as well, but Splinter Cell is very different.

I actually found Splinter Cell to be far more immersive once I got into it than MGS2. Played on a big screen with a 5.1 system turned up LOUD, it's awesome.

Splinter Cell didn't have an hour long movie every five minutes. That alone made it better than Metal Gear Solid 2.

I loved it. No other game has captured that same feeling of espionage that Splinter Cell has (although Goldeneye on the N64 had it's moments). You have to be smart, you have to plan every single move you make. It sounds like a chore, but it's actually fun.

It's also that type of game that compels you to do everything perfectly. I repeated certain levels just to make sure that the second time around no alarms ever went off, that all my kills were single head shots, and that the bodies were all in hiding spots so bloody good that no one would ever find them.

Everything in the game is interactive as well. You can pick up beer bottles / coke cans and use them to distract guards. Turn off light switches to make enemies stumble around dark rooms (night vision comes in handy at these times - think silence of the lambs).

Negatives:
- Gameplay can become a bit too much "trial and error" at times.
- Save Points aren't well spaced out, imho.

Other than that, a terrific game.

Raven Shield rocks for mine. If you want a squad based tatical shooter (and the best one ever made) then Raven Shield.

If you are playing Splinter Cell on PC I would only get it if you have a decent system. The lighting in Splinter Cell and how it is used is its hook. Splinter Cell does have crappy textures too but the gameplay does rock.

So do you want a story based stealth game or a light on story squad tactical shooter?

MGS2 is meant to be average on the PC btw (crap control set up).

Funny you should mention needing a decent system to play Splinter Cell, as it all started when i was in the newsagents. Instead of buying the full version of Splinter Cell, i saw and bought a mag that had a demo of some Splinter Cell levels. It installed fine, but everytime i went to load it up, it would always go back to the desktop. Turns out that my graphics card is a touch below what is needed. Lucky i didn't spend the $90 to buy the full verison of Splinter Cell as they don't give refunds! My comp isn't crap, it is quite good actually, with plently of memory and that. It was just the graphics card that could have been a little bit better, and i have a list of my PC's specifications to compare to various games. Unless i get the comp upgraded, i already have the names of mainly first-person shooters to consider.
