Has anyone been playing this? I just bought it today and am still in the second phase. So far, it's pretty simplistic and kind of boring, but I'm not going to expect too much until the final space section. Has anyone burned through this yet? should I not get my hopes up for it getting better?, because it's not really as good as I thought it would be ATM...

biggest gaming letdown since...i can't remember. the tribal & civ stages are a disgrace. can guarantee you won't play it through again.

The game is amazing. simply addictive on a fm level. played it for 4 days straight.

i have some advice,

1. the first 3 stages are gimmicks, really easy.
2. space stage is AWESOME.
3. colonize quick and make allies and do missions, i currently have 30 million sporebucks.

but there is big thing you need to do to not spoil your game. the grox are in the centre, and never attack the grox, i mean never.

i have just allied with them, which is painstakingly hard. always switch off your auto turret when you encounter the grox, because if you destroy even 1 of their ships, they will declare war and you are screwed.

the will attack you until you become their ally, even when on missions. so auto turret off, lots of energy packs. to get them to ally, give them massive gifts, terraform planets for them and destroy planets of empires near them (BIG BADDA BOOM).

you will be able to get to the centre and all will be revealed. one con of this strategy is once you ally with the grox, all the other empires in the galaxy will declare war on you.

so, if you get to the centre, you will be given the essence of live, the ability to terraform planets instantly to t3. thats it get to the centre you beat the game, then you have all the power.

It's dissapointing that it perhaps hasn't lived up to what it was billed to be. It's supposed to be very 'mainstream' ala. The Sims. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing as I didn't mind the Sims, but for the Hardcore players, that can only last so long. Not sure if it's worth getting for my mind.

all the sim games have been mainstream (well, apart from simearth) but at least they had some genuinely challenging gameplay elements e.g. building & maintaining a profitable city in simcity was a real achievement. there's nothing redeeming about spore's gameplay except maybe the first 3 hours you spend playing the space stage. if this wasn't a will wright game it would be destined for the children's bargain bin section of your local game store. the creature, tribal & civ stages are an insult & no better or more complex than flash applications.

I think I met the Grox earlier than I was supposed to.

I had been reading from people that you get all these hints about the grox and who are the grox etc.

Then I got to the part in the space phase where I could use black holes to travel. i wen through one and it appeared to dissappear (it didn't though). I then went searching and found another and another and another. Pretty soon I was lost, I wound up in the centre of the Galaxy, I went to a planet and contacted them, it was the Grox. I tried to ally but they didn't want to so I left and continued trying to get home. Eventually I did get home, I guess I will meet the Grox again then.

It's good but not great.

I haven't reached space yet though. That's mainly because I've found the Civ phase to be the biggest let down so far. I knew that you could only have 1 of each type of vehicle and I got over that but ONE OF EACH TYPE OF BUILDING?!?!? WHAT THE ****? That gives you the most boring cities imaginable.
