In numerous sports including soccer, f1, and some AFL clubs it's all about managing workloads on players, tyres/petrol etc, during a match and the season. It's also about manipulating the opposition to use up their performance early until they wear out.

The EPL will have teams passing the ball around early as the other team chase and go hard afyer the ball. One team is using the ball, the other team is using up it's energy. Yes they may get in front, but later in the game or race the team that's preserves it's energy is going to come very hard.

Carlton have got it the wrong way round, I'd rather we play keepings off early, less mistakes when you're not fatigued and second half play the manic go fast game. That's an easy game style to achieve, we should be focusing on keeping the ball, like Brisbane do, then when the times right and the other team is fatigued you go hard.

The problem is if an outsider like me can see this and they haven't someone has to pay. Seems to me that Voss is always two/three steps behind other coaches. Reactive not Innovative.

Not sure we have the skills, gameplan or confidence to play energy-conserving / keepings off footy.... yet.

But it's something we should 100% be developing (well, we should have already have developed it, but better late than never).

I think the energy is being expended winning the ball at the initial contest, and our sloppy skills leads to more contests around the ground.

Hmm not sure it’s just energy related.

Both teams running around/tackling/jumping first half so why do we seemingly run out of legs as the game wears on and they find another gear?

Also, note teams get stronger and stronger approaching end of game. Dee’s we’re on fire in the last quarter.

Got to be more to it than just that.

I tend to agree. Teams spend the first half chasing us around. It’s not like they aren’t working hard.
