That's right guys, the club that keeps on embarrassing themselves has given us another pearler.
In the week leading up to the 2018 national draft, St Kilda's recruiting department was heavily divided on who to select with pick 4. They even held an emergency meeting because some of their recruiters were fiercely adamant Connor Rozee was the player they should select, and it's easy to see why. Fast, dynamic, ready-made, elite overhead marking, elite kicking x-factor stars aren't exactly easy to come by, and as an added bonus, young Connor was a mad Saints fan!
Alas, the St Kilda we know aren't known for their good decisions during October and November. Whether it's trading a first rounder for Andrew Lovett, trading two first rounders for Tom Hickey and Tom Lee, selecting Jack Billings over the Bont, using pick 1 on Chubbies McCartin (I could go forever), they always find new and exciting ways to entertain the competition through their own stupidity. In this instance, they've decided to select Max King, a guy who 12 months ago, SEVERELY tore his ACL, and even now, is still in the middle of an 18 month recovery. On top of that, he's a 200cm beanpole key forward with barely any form last year, having gotten injured so early. By the time he's fit to play a game, you suddenly realize tall forwards as skinny as he is take at least 5-6 years to produce something even remotely worthwhile at AFL level, but there's a good chance not even that will transpire. It's a well known fact that 200cm forwards taken high in the draft also have a high failure rate: Tom Boyd being a prime example, then you have good old McCartin who the Aints obviously haven't learned their lesson on.
Meanwhile, Rozee in his THIRD AFL GAME just kicked 5 goals against a potential premiership contender on their home turf. This is a guy who has the x-factor St Kilda have been STARVING for, and they still chose to select a risky, 200cm beanpole.
WHAT were they THINKING???
Mark my words right here and now: this one will go down as a bigger draft ****up than Jack Watts over Naitanui.
