So do we recruit a whole side or just ten or so to make up the numbers with those not selected in the firsts?
What if we have a heap of injuries in the firsts where would we pull make up numbers from for vfl???

Has it been determined that the Reserves would play all home games at Moorabbin? Is there a sneaky chance of a curtain raiser for AFL? Maybe a Heritage Round revival?

Hey mods, I know you are probably busy enough but could we have a running list of announced players pinned to the top of the chat?

There'll probably be something when the list takes shape, it's not been discussed really so we'll figure something out.

True, they’re likely to earn more money playing local footy
Just speaking to a Western Jets coach at the gym this afternoon
Moved to Newport, lost their captain to the country who offered him 100k for 16 games.
Some big money in country footy.

My mates nephew who played VFL for North and also SANFL reckons playing in Ballarat is so much more lucrative. SANFL was better because they set you up with work and a host family until you settle etc but VFL is only for guys who want another go at AFL. Reckons you go to the non aligned clubs if you want to get drafted to get to show your wares.

He lives in Melbourne and goes up for game day and the occasional training session but gets paid enough to make it a good side gig. VFL barely pays for your transport and boots.

We haven't seen them play yet, but already the VFL supp list is looking well planned and recruited to suit our overall list needs.

We are also obviously targetting younger players for a reason.

IF the list is overall fit, then the Reserves will look something like;

B: Carroll - Barrat - B.McKenzie
HB: Hastie - Richardson - Clark
C: O’Connell - Travaglia - Byrnes
HF: Maginness - Keeler - Butler
F: Collard - Caminiti - Campigli
Foll: Dodson - Dow - Boxshall

Int: Said Galimberti Peckett Banfield Fincher Armstrong McDonald*

It’s not bad, but it ain’t winning any VFL flags.

List is still a second ruckman, another two KPPs, and a couple of genuine midfielders short IMO.

Gees if we can field that team for most of the year, our VFL side will be a lot more competitive than we have been for years! There will be enough experience in Clark, Butler, Dow, Byrnes and Carroll to develop the younger kids around. If Boxshall is playing VFL he we will have that required big bodied mid we need, otherwise that might become a need.

Virtually a carbon copy of last years sandy side which finished second bottom, maybe better key forward talent, but without Arie Zones McLennan and Heath who were probably 4 of our better VFL performers over the last few years. The only teams that will finish below us will be Sandy and maybe Tasmania.

On another note, looking at next years fixture, with VFL starting in AFL round 2, we will most likely start the season as follows- GWS in Sydney, Brisbane at RSEA, BYE, and then another bye for gather round. I would love to see our reserves fly over for gather round and play a curtain raiser against ports reserves at Adelaide oval. SANFL v VFL crossover exhibition match etc.

One of last year's problems was the way we stacked the side full of really young kids and coupled with a mass of injuries it made us vulnerable. If we can keep more players fit we should have a bigger pool of AFL listed players available. Having guys like Butler, Clark, Dow and a further developed pool of younger Saints should help.
