It's something else to hear the crap Healy and especially Shehan are spinning in the last hour on 3AW.

Shehan - "Stafford had this coming for a while"

Get stuffed, Mike.

And while I'm at it, Mike said that he still believe St. Kilda would finish above Richmond this season. Uh-huh.

Stafford should have been outed for at least two weeks. It was a very reckless act and one that should have been penalised.

A lot of journalists, including a former Tiger coach, not just Sheahan and Healy believed it was a pretty ordinary forearm jolt.

Ram-Man,

Why persist with this? Why should he be penalised if he did everything (and the video shows it) by the book. Maybe adding that the bounce was pretty bad and also the "Matthew Primus" rule is in place now, you might start thinking that some things are bound to happen.

As for Journalists believing it, they do ANYTHING to get a headline. Maybe one day you might realise you may of been sucked in by the media over this one.

It could be that the AFL were pretty miffed at the trial by media and dug there heels in. Reverse psychology (apologies for spelling) would be an ironic twist in the tail :)

The bounce was okay. It wasn't "heres Humphrey" who bounced the ball. I have seen far worse and no one has got hurt.

If Stafford did everything by the book then why did Everitt get hurt? Aren't there rules in place to stop this type of thing happening? The fact is that Stafford made high contact to Everitt causing him to suffer a serious injury.

It should've been a free kick and if the umpire believed he used unnecessary force - which I believe he did - he should've been reported.

As for being sucked in by the media - stupid statement on your behalf. I was there at the game and I saw it happen and I made up my own mind on the spot.

I do agree LC that there are far too many sports journalists looking for that dramatic headline.

Get over it. It went to the tribunal and was judged legal play.

Accidents happen, or how did Richo get a busted jaw???

The Other Side

How come the majority of people have failed to take into account that Everitt also was moving and in fact ran into Stafford.

But having said that, it was clumsy , possibly reckless and if the charge had of been reckless play, or misconduct it might have stuck. The charge was STRIKING this implies that there had to be intent shown.

The only other way of proving this other than getting Professor X to read stafs mind is to look for eye contact. That didn't Happen. or have the umpire hear stafford say "I'm going to get him' that didn't happen either. So prove intent, you cant.

So the tribunal had to let him go.

What the majority of Tiges fans have been disagreeing with (in my opion) is the portrayal of the shot to the head being deliberate. This cannot be proved. Personally I dont believe it was. If the hawks fans and the media had said he should be suspended because it was reckless then this all would have been pretty academic. In particular the mass media went after stafford as if he was a mass murderer not a footballer.

The other side of the problem that the tigers supporeters have is the Media coverage. Yesterday in court a child rapist was only given four years. This case has had little or no media coverage. Stafford and Spider bump bodies and we have complete media coverage for the last four days. This should be put in perspective. In fact as someone else put forward the excessive media coverage may have hurt the chances of Staff being suspended.

As of sunday Stafford has been guilty in the Medias eyes, nothing could change that. The AFL dont like excessive coverage of an ugly incident. The tribunal may have been saying "We are the Judges, not you Journalists"

Overall I feel bad for Spider, happy for Stafford and donwn right overjoyed that we have him for the weekend

You are full of it. Yeah. I was at the game too. So dont give me, I was the one who saw it routine. I could not see what had happened from that far away. NO ONE (where I was sitting), or the commentators could see what was going on. And they had binoculars with them.

I was in that crowd on the forward pocket, and the Hawks supporters around me did not even know what happened, one of them had ear phones (radio) on when we were talking to them.

Also, read what I said, I said "may of been" sucked in by media, I did not say you were. You should be careful about what you read into it.

But their are a few Hawks supporters who believe that it was accidental (a few in my workplace) and they accept that these things happen.

The reason we are precious about this situation, there's a lynching party out for someone who was in an accident, dont you think that might be the reason we defend him.

Thats all
