LETTER OF DEMAND SERVED ON RICHMOND BOARD
The alternate Richmond Football Club Board today demanded that all existing RFC Directors submit their written resignations to allow a full Board election in December.
In a comprehensive letter of demand, the alternate Board said that all current Directors must formally resign to allow a full Board Election to take place in December, in accordance with the incumbent Board’s public promise to Richmond members.
The current President, Clinton Casey, has repeatedly stated that there will be a full Board election in December of this year.
“…a full Board Election will be held no later than the second week of December 2004. This Election will coincide with the Richmond Football Club Annual General Meeting, which – in the event of an election being necessary – will be brought forward from late January 2005.” Joint Statement by Clinton Casey and Brendan Schwab, 28 July 2004.
“As has been previously stated, the entire Board is prepared to go up for re-election at the Annual Meeting in December”. Statement by President Clinton Casey, following a meeting of the full RFC Board on 7 September 2004.
“The Members of the Richmond Football Club have every right to expect that these public commitments will be honoured in full,” alternate Board President, Charles Macek said.
“It is extremely unfortunate that previous public commitments, including access to all RFC financial and commercial arrangements, have not been honoured by the current Board.
“It is also obvious that the current RFC Board is deeply divided – with President Clinton Casey publicly attacking two of his own Board members.”
If the existing Directors renege on their commitment for a full Board election at the December Annual General Meeting by failing to submit their written resignations, the alternate Board will not hesitate to bring on an Extraordinary General Meeting.
“If the Richmond Football Club is forced to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting, it will be entirely due to the failure of the current Board to honour its commitment to the Richmond Members,” Macek said.
The alternate Board has also called for the election to be conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission, via a postal ballot, to ensure that all RFC Members are given the opportunity to vote.
