Fingers crossed rivers is right to go next year. Assuming martin keeps progressing the way he is is there a chance we could play up forward (next year) as we do not really need 4 guys over 6'3 in our backline?

Bate, Sylvia and Miller are tallish players but are more lead up forwards could rivers be an option as the tall forward? It may be worth trying in the pre season next year.

I was thinking about this last night and had an idea, hattrick.org style. If we train up 4 key defenders, bulk them up and they all look the goods, whats to stop us offloading them to the Gold Coast team in a couple of years for some nice, high draft picks? It looks like they are going to have heaps of picks and might end up throwing them away to get decent players. So if we offer up one or two of these defenders to the Gold Coast it could end up being a winner for us. Just a thought.

One thing that my mate and I noticed at the game was he doesn't worry about his opponent in the marking contest as much as he does the ball. Someone like Garland, who has to be very clever with his small frame, has to judge his leap and spoil perfectly so he can get around the massive frames of the forwards.

Martin, on the other hand, simply stands, leaps, gets the ball. He trusts the size of his body a lot and his aerial ability. It's great to see such confidence in a young kid.

Don't discount Rivers also. Garland, Rivers and Martin with potentially Frawley is our backline of the future. Warnock will always be handy but so far he hasn't even reached Carroll's 06 form and that's probably as good as he'll ever get imo.(both Carroll and Warnock). He's handy, yes, but not what you might call a "premiership defender".

I remember that game, it was in '98 prior to when we had QB games against the Pies. He earned his 1 solitary career Brownlow medal vote in that game and we won by 3 or 4 points

Yeah Chisholm and Farmer both finished on 6 votes for us and we had about 5 players on 5 votes.

But really, Farmer wins it on a count back from Chisholm, farmer had 2 3vote games to Chisholm's 1.

Well, it makes me feel a little bet to think that Farmer won it

Now I'm not saying they're all great and going to be the best but they are better than Carroll.
In my mind, Martin will have to be the swing man. He will have to play forward and back according to the teams needs ala Ben Holland.

Rivers is Harley
Bell is Milburn
James Frawley = Mackie?
Now in no way am I saying that these palyers are equal or anything but just the types of players they are. we just need another small defender like a whelan type.

More reasonable, but i'd say CJ or Buckley are more Wojinski

Frawley tries to play a bit like Scarlett, but he's a long way off. I hope he can get somewhere like that, but i'm not sold yet

Warnock might be compared to Harry Taylor, back-up key defender (if Egan was fit).

I have to commend you, i don't know anyone who can pull out obscure '80 and early '90s references better then yourself.
