I was wondering if this article is even half true? If so is he any good as i dont know much about him?
also some of these facts seems icorrect.

I thought Wood had a year to go? and surely we cant have that much cap space if Cloke goes?

"Collingwood is also pursuing a versatile big man. Melbourne's Stefan Martin, 25, is believed to be on the radar."

"Sources say Collingwood is highly active in its pursuit of a versatile big man, with up to $700,000 to offer another key position player to replace Cloke"

"Magpies back-up ruckman Cameron Wood is out of contract and faces an uncertain future beyond this season"

I won't hide behind it I'm a huge fan of Martin and first raised the specter of him coming to the Westpac centre at least 3-4 months ago. He is hugely undervalued IMO, however it depends almost entirely on how much it costs to get him.

Based on the fact that he was 3rd choice behind Spencer and Jamar for most of 2012 I'd give a second round pick to get him, but if he does lob at Collingwood in 2013 no matter the price I'd personally be happy.

What players would you be prepared to offer up?

Realistically i doubt a player would be offered, it would be a draft pick.

He only played 7 games this year, doesn't exactly have alot of currency at the moment.
Had more currency at the end of the 2011.

Not sure we would have much to offer.
If Cloke leaves i would imagine we would offer a pick maybe not sure....goldsack?
Havent really seen him that much to know what hes worth tbh.

He was injured for most of the year, that is the reason he only played 7 games.

If he is injury free he is a walk up start for us, can go forward & back if need be but his best position is in the ruck. He would be one of the few players I would be genuinely upset if we lost as if he can stay injury free he should explode soon.

I'd like to have him. I'm always cautious of taking a guy from a bottom side who could barely get a game...but I think Martin could be one of those players who flourishes with a better team around him. Plus he would never be the number 1 ruck or forward or back as was expected of him at Melbourne. He is in his prime now as well and is a ready made Forward/Ruck which we require.

I'd want him if we have Cloke or not. Forget replacing Cloke...firstly we need to replace Leigh Brown.

Yeah fair enough.

I only asked cause I think we'll have enough draft picks to bring in some younger blokes so Neeld will be looking for an experienced body or two.

Btw I think Martin would be a great fit for you guys.

The problem I suppose with him is that he is a 25 year old with only 50 games behind him. You'd expect at 25 that he would be between 80-100 now and going into his prime as a footballer. He really is still developing into his best role. But big men do take longer, and his 2011 season was very solid. I'd love to have him.

he was drafted as a 20 year old who had only ever played two years of football, that is why he has only played the 50 odd games. Last year when Jamar went down for a 4-6 week period Martin was an absolute standout for us and has come on a great deal from when he was first drafted

Agreed, and i even commented that his 2011 season was really good. Just trying to work out price for him in a trade. Based purely on the figures (50 games at 25....at a bottom of the ladder club)...you couldn't go trading a premiership player or an early selection for him.

Having said that, I think he is just what we need and would fill a massive hole in our list.

He would be a good fit for you, but he is also an important player for us. i think a trade will be hard to come by as we would probably want more than you are willing to give up for him.

I would be very suprised if we traded him for draft picks as we are very short on big bodied players in his age group and already have an abundance of young kids.

We've been keeping a very special player under a bushell for just such a trade occassion. His name is Cameron Wood, and he's set to explode onto your scene.

Just what we need, another underperforming and underwelming player.

FYI We have 26 Cam Wood type players on our list

Simon Buckley? :)

On a more serious note, I reckon we should target Cam Pederson. North have a plethora of talls and he has falled way down the list behind Goldstein, Petrie, Macintosh, Tarrant, Hansen in attack, and wouldn't get a look in for their defence either.

We could get him relatively cheap and he would do a good job for us as the backup ruck/forward.

Weren't Carlton going after Cloke?

They can't get both Cloke and Lynch.

If you throw in Rivers as well, we might be able to do some bizdis.
only if you take frawley as well and allow us the luxury of getting Buckley back

Hey man, I'm trying to have a serious football discussion. What is this. Now where were we...oh yes, you were sexing up the Wood deal. Continue, but seriously this time.

He is a quality choice as a 2nd ruck, is an athletic tall (198cm) has a good leap and can go forward. Much better option then Dawesy has been, Dawes needs to be played primarily as a fwd imo.

Oh and a 2nd rounder is about right, or a fringe player.

Well According to the Article Neeld does not want him

I'd happily part with 2nd round pick for him. We must keep our first round though.
