Attention Old Farts - it is 25 years since I first saw the Hoodoo Gurus - they were great tonight at the Forum. Dave Faulkner and Brad Sheperd are the beating heart of that band and BitterSweet is one of the greatest pop songs Australia have ever produced

As for Birdman - for guys pushing fifty the produce a lot of energy - Denis Tek is my God

The Stems?

The Stems?

They were on fire but I was disoriented by the fact that they actually started at 8PM sharp - I only got two songs - they were quality and were tight as from what I saw

Hoodoo Gurus can suck my nuts.

They came on immediately before Bloc Party and Arctic Monkeys at Splendour in the Grass.

It seemed like there was just one dude in the whole crowd into them, and he was a total knob. Really drunk and kept grabbing all these young kids heads and shaking them. He was getting DANGEROUSLY near to me and if he grabbed at my head I wouldn't have reacted in the way that these 16 year olds were.

I think Hoodoo Gurus were feeling the distinct lack of love and good on them for continuing to perform, but god it was a waste of an hour.

That's an early start. Anyone able to give a report on their full set?

Also Contra, how many did they get there?

Your are talking about one of the greatest power pop bands Australia has produced - and if guitar God antics of Brad Sheperd cannot get you going you must be dead from the neck down

Not a full report but a mate who went last night said they were best act on the night (and he is a big fan of all three).
He also said they'll be playing a gig at East Brunswick later in the year and warned me not to miss them.
I missed last night due to severe financial restraints (i'd say I'm broke but I dream of the days of broke) and then found out this morning above mate had a spare plus one on door........mmmmmmmm.......

I really enjoy these gigs - there is a fair amount of old fart paunch carrying solidarity in the mosh pit - the beer prices were unbelievable - a Green Coopers cost 5.50 each, a Stella was eight friggen bucks - old blokes outnumbered shielas about ten to one

Just like the old days!

Stems playing @ The East Brunswick on 10th & 11th Nov. about $25. I'll be making every effort to get to one of those nights.

I've got every (excluding compilations apart from gorilla biscuit) album except their last one and seen them a heap of times.......... but for some reason i can't seem to get over them rewriting "what's my scene" as "that's my team" for the NRL

Not that i equate music in seriousness and importance with a cure for cancer, but i found that a little bit too sell out/cringe worthy :(

I find that since they did that, i rarely get the urge to pull my Hoodoo's cd's out now (although i admit i put 'bittersweet' on my friend's compilation cd to run with in the sydney half marathon on sunday :p) and i would only see them live now if they played at my local club, whereas in the past i have driven 4 hours to see them....

And my INXS cd's have barely been touched since they did that reality TV show....

It's not a deliberate moral stance on either, just found that they have both lost a little gloss in my eyes as a result....

Not that they would give a rat's arse as both ventures have been successful :D
