Stenglein, Begley out

The squad if finalised. Tyson Stenglein withdrew from the side due to sore hamstring and Begley will have his first hitout of the year with Sturt. Robert Shirley comes in for Stenglein and Matthew Smith gets his first crack at AFL footy and hopefully he plays well and proves those powder supporters who have doubts over his ability WRONG.

So it will be interesting to see who gets the job of tagging Cousins.

I dont understand the selection of a proven AFL player in Begley over Shirley. At least Claire from the Robert Shirley fan page will be thrilled he's got a game. Hi Claire!

Stenglein is our number 1 tagger so it seems logical to replace him with another tagger in Shirley, even if we are not big Shirley fans. Begley is a running / attacking type of player while Shirls is negating player selected to probably mind Cousins.

I'm not sure why everyone is so down on Shirley. No question that Shirley is not a matchwinner but each time he has played he has done nothing really wrong, and Shirley is not like a "cringe factor" David Gallagher.

You are right he is no David Gallagher. No one can be that bad.

I just think there are better players than Shirley and they deserve a chance. We know what Shirley can do (which is not much) and he has no scope for much improvement. I will grant you that he is a good tagger but not much more.

Begley is just coming back from injury and to me would require a hit out in the sanfl before being selected for the crows.

Suits me just fine as i'll be seeing him play tomorrow

I think the selectors got it right. It was either Stinga if he was fit, or Shirley if he wasn't, but never both, as the main tagger. Stinga is out so Shirls is in.

Also with Bicks coming back from long-term injury for his first run, Begley was highly unlikely to get a berth, as you wouldn't want 2 players in this category resuming in the one game.

yep fully agree.
david gallagher sucks...soo glad we got rid of him..everytime he touced the ball i knew hed funble...he just wasnt cut out for the big time.
