After seeing some action of this kid he reminds me a lot of adrian Whitehead. He is fearless, skillfull and is not scared to take an opponent on. He loves running back with the flight of the ball to make a contest. He is a sensational mark for his size.

Yeah I can see that.

But for me he reminds me more of:

Past - Andrew McKay
Present - Jed Adcock

In saying that I can see him spending more time in the midfield than McKay did.

I also thought he looked like a 1993 clone of Macca but I didn't want to jump the gun and went for a Whitehead comparison. He runs out of defence with confidence and unlike 1AW seems to hit most targets.

A gem and a bargain at 36. Courageous and skillful small defender, just what we're screaming out for. Knowing we'd get Kreuzer weeks beforehand, picking up this bloke has me more excited.

Kreuzer and Browne in action

Made his senior WAFL debut in round 17 with West Perth and was named best on ground in round 18 with 29 disposals and 10 marks. Recorded solid results at the 2007 NAB AFL Draft Camp with a 13.8 beep test and 3.00sec 20m sprint

Kevin Sheehan, AFL National Talent Manager says:

“Steven is your unobtrusive medium defender who just makes very few errors. He’s a clean ball handler who’s quite strong overhead, uses the ball right and left with his feet very, very well and mops everything up. He played consistently for WA at under-18 level, stepped up for six games at senior level in the WAFL – including one best on ground. Whatever level he’s put to, he’s unfazed, unflappable and continually makes good decisions; a neat and tidy player.

“What he did after the under-18’s, to step up and go and play with the seniors and actually dominate just shows that step-ups are no surprise to him; he just takes it in his stride, he’s one of those players.”

Jon Haines, Talent and Coaching Manager WA Football Commission says:

“Steven is a really hard worker with really good defensive skills. He puts a lot of pressure on the opposition which causes the ball to be turned over. He’s very much an inside player and wins a lot of contested ball. He is a very poised, calm and cool individual with good skills and good presence of mind under pressure.”

I think that was a "mission" of ours on Saturday to get players at 36 and 46 that use the ball well, and hit their targets. From what I have seen of Browne, and read of Armfield, both of these guys do this.
