In the Dreamtime round, Adam Goodes was called an 'ape' by a Collingwood supporter. Goodes left the ground, having pointed out the offender, and the event has since been hailed the spiritual continuation of Winmar's watershed moment of calling out racism in the AFL. Eddie Mcguire nearly tripped over his own tongue in hastily apologising and the media dwelt on awful nature of the comment for the next two weeks.
Only a few rounds earlier, Stephen Milne, 33 year-old, All-Australian and three-time premiership player lined up to take a shot from the pocket, when an objectionable, cretinous and, frankly, fat ****ing manatee of a Collingwood fan leaned over the fence to, amongst other viciousness, slur Mr Milne as a 'rapist'.

In contrast to the Goodes issue; the commentators laughed the abuse off and humorously suggested that Milne was somewhat deserving of the horrible abuse he so often suffers at the hands of morbidly obese and chronically ****ing stupid 'fans'. The footage was played on the big-screen at the ground and the Collingwood crowd, as a collective, joined in the laughter.
The following week, on the Footy Show, this utter moll was lauded by Garry Lyon and James Brayshaw, despite the fact that a number of players, including Collingwood guns Dayne Beams and Luke Ball had voiced their disgust at her conduct.
In the aftermath of the Goodes saga, Milne rightly spoke out at the pathetic double-standard applied by a disingenuous league far more concerned with public image than any objective measure of ensuring vilification is stamped out of the league.
"Milne said he could accept general sledging and banter with the crowd ''as much as anyone'', but some abuse was deeply hurtful. ''It's a bit of a touchy subject,'' Milne said on Channel Nine. ''Nothing really changes with me. What happened on Friday night [with Goodes] was very sad for the game - it's all about the racism at the moment.
''But I cop a few words which aren't good for anyone. I've got a couple of kids and they go to the footy and my family and parents have to cop the abuse. So the sooner we can stamp it out the better.''
On Footy Classified on June 10th, Caro Wilson rightly pointed out that much of the blame must rest with a 'certain respected premiership coach, that being bespectacled twat and sometime Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse who was fined $7500 for calling Milne a 'rapist'. He should've been fined $75,000.
I don't write this to merely draw attention to the stupidity of the double-standard, I do it because I feel at times St Kilda supporters have been guilty of failing to make the case for Milne and get the noise going to start the momentum to stamp it out forever. I admit I've long, and unreasonably, felt that Milne was immune to the nasty shit that flies at him over the boundary line. I think, especially in light of Milnes own comments, it's time to say enough is enough.
It's important not to ignore the recent poor-form of Milney and that many of our own have been calling 'time' on his career for a while now. I think it's a little premature myself but one thing is beyond argument. This is a man who has bled red, white and black. A man who has never shied away from a contest, never failed to back up the kids, never given less than everything plus a bit more and who, despite occasionally showing poor judgment and perhaps overreaching, never accepted defeat and never stopped trying to kick goals.
Milne is always first to arrive on the scene when any player is getting a hard time, and is fearless in his support. When things are going well, he does his best to put the opposition away ruthlessly and with flair. When things are going badly he still pushes himself to turn things around, no matter how foregone the conclusion might be. At 33, he plays with the enthusiasm of a rookie and each time he runs out onto the field, the pride he has for his guernsey is self-evident.
Whether or not you believe Milne's career is over, it is something that should be determined by the club and Milne: not because he feels he needs to protect his wife and children from the disgusting slurs levelled at him by ****wit fans, usually to the gibbering approval of the commentariat.
Stephen Milne has earned that right, bought and paid for with his blood, sweat and tears. He has earned our loyalty and we owe it to Milney to be vocal, ruthless and unflinching in ensuring that his family are able to enjoy the champion in action, as we all have over the years, without hearing their father, husband and son being called a 'rapist' and worse; having this filth tacitly endorsed by the wider community.
It is my contention that it speaks to the character of Milne that it has escaped the spotlight for so long. While the slur against Goodes was objectionable, I say that sustained, unfounded and perversely celebrated accusations of 'rape' are far worse. Goodes left the field, and did so in the full knowledge that the football world would bend over backwards to condemn the racism. Milne shanked the kick but kept on fighting, and fighting hard, knowing that some ****ing idiots would consider that bullshit a hilarious highlight.
Stephen Milne, you are an absolute champion. Congratulations on 5.1 against West Coast, another brilliant performance among many. I apologise on behalf of the baying dipshits and for being a supporter who has ignored it for too long.
