I put him in the same boat as Varcoe last season, given the limited pre-season both had coming into their debut years. Granted, Dopey showed significantly less (spurts or not) than Trav, but I felt the calls for a delisting after one injury interrupted rookie season were uncalled for.

That said, Dopey really needs to put everything together and show something at VFL level this season (given our stocks and his presumed development, AFL seems out of the question this year). He's played predominantly in the forward line for much of his junior career, and I think that's where we're best suited playing him for the majority of the time. Tudor will want to give him his defensive bread and butter lesson down back (like everyone else), and a run through the middle will probably be on cue every now and then (given the preference to play all our tall stocks up forward - perhaps not so much this year though), but he needs to settle into some sort of role up forward. Given his knack for the goals, a specialist crumber role wouldn't be out of the equation, but a role as a leading forward may suit.

Think he won't get too many chances this year but if he stays healthy he is a very good prospect. He is a top bloke also.:thumbsu:

I was one of those who thought he needed to be delisted. I didn't realise he missed preseason. Given that I think he deserves a chance this year.

I thought we should have dumped him or moved him on to our Rookie list as we did we TL. After deluding us about his OP , I think the extra pick we could have had in the draft and the chance to sound a warning about not being forthcoming with that type of info was chance missed. A guy like Prismalls brother for eg. wasn't taken
That they didnt do this may mean they still think he has something to offer. IMO , he better show a bit of it to back them up this year

I think it's a bit harsh to say he fooled the club about his OP. He had a pretty good draft camp and he should have been tested as well. I think if you've got OP it's pretty hard to hide. Perhaps he had warning signs that he might have OP but ignored them, went to the camp and did well enough to get drafted. It may have only been after the camp that he developed full-blown OP.

If it is only diagnosed by your local doctor and they keep it hush hush than how are you going to find out?

hmmm. then that if proven should be grounds by itself to be delisted. I wouldn't be too happy if I was the club and players were hiding that sort of thing (similar to SJ not telling the club he got arrested only more detrimental to the actual depth of the list)

How come he tested so well at the draft camp then? And if the club didn't do their own medical checks then they have been negligent in their duty.

Firstly this is hypothetical, I didn't even know he had OP.

What medical check are they going to do to find OP?

Many players have played an AFL season with OP. I sure it is not beyond possibility that a player get a few injections and last out a weekend.

I'm sure all players invited to Draft Camp all go through a very tough medical before they arrive to the camp by the AIS doctors and any problems all AFL clubs are notified.
When did he get first show signs of OP ? Hid he have OP when he arrived at the cats or did he develop OP after stepping up to from TAC training to full on AFL training?
You can't hide OP at any level of footy, so think some of you are harsh on Owen saying he hide his OP.

You can hide OP at all levels. It is rumoured that Ablett Jnr has OP. Ball hide it for a long time. I still don't think they have admitted it was OP.

I just don't think it would come up on any medical done by a club unless the player said something. I don't think their is a test it would show up on at all.

It doesn't matter if he had OP or not. Should never have been picked as high as 35! Should have swapped him with Grima on the rookie list!

If we are all prepared to give Varcoe another year to prove himself because of injuries in 06 surely Owen deserves the same. I have a feeling we will be pleasantly surprised. :thumbsu:

That may be the case, all i'm saying is let's give him a chance to show what he's got. after all Charlie, Playfair are still there and what have they shown?

Sorry he will be the second delisted - Charlie will be first, Spencer will be not far behind too...
