I'm buying a new stereo system soon but am a bit confused as to one specification they give:

50W x 2RMS

I know it refers to the speakers and the "W" meants Watts right, which is basically power or quality of the speaker?

Its just that some of the more expensive systems have the same number of speakers with less Watts per speaker?

Anyway, a bit of advice wouldn't go astray.

The systems I'm looking at:

Any experts out there who can give me a run down? At the moment I'm looking at the top web address system.

Cheers

I recently got 2 speaks and a sony xplode for 330.
It has made a world of difference and would recommend it to anyone.
Now I just have to replace the factory speakers which dont like it when I crank up the base:D

I'm no expert on the subject but I believe you should try to buy components. ie seperate CD,Amp and speakers to start.

The way I bought is a CD player and Hitachi all in one 2 tape, receiver amp speaker thing I could plug CD into back of.
A couple of years later I bought an Amp and 2 speakers, a couple of more years later 2 more speakers, I then hooked up a stereo video, then the Foxtel etc

What I'm saying is you'll always want more but never need to throw out your initial purchase, you can replace components as you go along.
