Good decision by SJ and the club, I think.
Sure, he would have been very handy during our tough start, but we saw last year with Bartel how it goes when a gun player is carrying a degenerative problem.

Bright side is that another one of the kids pushing for a place will get a chance. Brown perhaps in a forward berth? More likely one of the midfield types, I suppose.

Edit: Actually, Murdoch is a lock now, if he wasn't already.
Edit: Smedts!

Oh, FFS.

Come home from work, jump on here as my excitement builds for the season.......and this!

Someone please tell me its a sick joke? Please??

Is there another club running (excuse the pun) around with so many foot and knee injuries as us right now?

Silver lining - I guess it gives some youngsters an extended chance to impress, but boy, we're sailing close to the wind!

It sucks, but we aren't the only ones.
For example, Hawthorn, Freo and WCE are missing/losing key players as well: Hodge, Whitecross, Sandilands, Le Cras, Natanui and so on.

It is always depressing though, after all the pre-season effort and looking so good in the per-season.

What a disasterous pre season we have had we wouldn't want any more injuries or we will be behind the eight ball all year there doesn't seem to be any good news regarding Vardy,McIntosh comeback dates and then they all need match fitness

Yes, but West?, Vardy, McIntosh, SJ, Hunt, Guthrie, Simpson is a big slab out of the 1sts/borderline 1sts side.

Damn! Definitely a good thing he has had it done now though. You wouldn't want him playing all year with it and having reduced output (like Bartel last year). Hopefully he is back in a couple of weeks anyway, and I'm sure he'll be firing and ready to go!

Looks like I'll have to take him out of my supercoach line up know though - damn ;)!

Yep, doesn't sound too serious and over course of season is best to do now. SJ has done a full pre season so he will be pretty much right to slot back in.

Gives opportunities to Caddy, Menzel, Smedts, GHS and Murdoch which is a plus. Is a pity the burbs isn't up and running as could have been a great opportunity.

The other plus is maybe a window for Kersten, who I think is just battling with a long time heel issue which is manageable via all reports.

Think I read somewhere Kersten has a slight hammy but not 100% on that info

I see the silver lining here, the Cats are pre-empting possible issues with niggling injuries now rather than later in the year.
Take a month off now and miss a few early rounds instead of doing possibly a worse injury and being out for 2 months from round 15.
I'd rather SJ be off now than do a knee on the eve of the finals.
I'd rather have no ruck now than none in the finals.
I'd rather have Vardy and Menzel finding fitness now than come in and injure themselves later in the year.
I'd rather the Cats take the best chance of fixing guys now while they can do it easier/better than risk them for a longer term injury.
I'd also rather have my fellow Cat supporters to be optimistic and see the positive instead of the reverse.

Did he get that info from Balmey? :)

Anything else of interest from the coach on that program?
Just said that he guarantees that Blitz is going to be in the squad of 25 for Monday and from the way he was speaking about him just get the feeling that he will get a start.

Went on about the blooding of our younger players and just reaffirmed that it is something deliberate but the amount that got games last year wasn't meant to be as many it just worked out that way

Thanks. Did he mention Walker as being in the 25 too?

Why couldn't he miss four weeks mid-season when we've got GWS and the bye!

We've got a tough first month and I really do think those games will shape our season, so it's horrible timing. It's good news for Stokesy and Motlop and our other fringe small forwards, I guess.

Love this sort of thing.
Well I hate it really, but let's let the kids loose.
