Admire his determination and tenacity but I think one of the reasons he has been shifted to the forward line is to ensure we don't get hurt on the scoreboard when he plays in defence. Last night he gave away 5 free kicks and thankfully they were mostly deep in our forward line and not deep in our defence! I'd hate to see how many frees he has given away in his career to date and especially ones resulting goals in for the opposition. Good move my Dimma kinda kills two birds with one stone.

Gave away a few frees with his manic attack on the ball and man but left the Carlton defenders scared which completely destroyed their run out of defence. Best 3 disposal game I've seen. On TV his influence may have been lost but watching at the ground he was hugely influential in the win.

It's a funny one as he'll more than likely be suspended within 3 weeks. The games too soft for Stevie.

He'll struggle against the good sides in that position in fact lets be honest on the TV he looked like he struggled last night.

I thought his pressure was great and he was unlucky with a few free kicks. Lloyd pinched a goal from him which would have made his performance better. Needs to work on his offensive game. Not a great game by any stretch but I thought the plan worked last night. Definitely will work over defenders and make them wary.

He's there to put on forward pressure as a Jake King replacement and the role he played in the forward line.

Edit - his forward pressure and attack on the loose ball in contested situations last night was fantastic. Still didn't look like he was a likely goal scorer in the forward line though - hopefully there's something to work with there.

Think a few are missing the point - he is a liability down back and the move forward is a good idea.

I'm not sure. Yes, we all get excited about some defensive acts like tackles that look good, but you also have to win your own ball. Maybe the reason he does so many defensive things is because he is continually being beaten to the ball and is always chasing.

As said - 3 possessions is not enough for a forward. TBH, it's not enough for anybody in today's football. He has to create some attacking play as well as be the defensive hunter.

But he's very good at the defensive side!

I guess he gets a game next week under the 'Don't Change A Winning Side' formula - but it's still a bit up in the air.

Was at the game and can conform Morris was very good. The 3 free kicks that the umpire paid against him in that third quarter all could have gone the other way. He set up a goal for Lloyd, wouldn've been an easy goal for Cotch and there were several other times where spillages were directly resulting from his attack. And as someone said that holding the ball one was a joke. He not only copped a high tackle but didn't dive on it or have prior opportunity to dispose of it and then made a legit attempt to. Could easily have been a goal to us. So he had a 3 goal game essentially which is terrific given the obvious stopping impact he also provides with pressure and pace. I like the move.

I wasnt at the game so i will take your word for his defensive pressure.

He somehow ended with 5 clangers from his 3 disposals  lol

See Cotcho's post above yours. Sums it up well. Watching from level 4 I could really see the influence his pressure had on the Blues defence. They had no run from their backline which has killed us in the past and he was largely responsible.

Another move was simple enough in its action, but devastating in its effect.

The Tigers’ rough and tumble half-back flanker Steven Morris was redeployed to a sort of half-forward missile role, and coach Damien Hardwick would’ve been rapt.

Morris will be a sore boy today, crashing and banged into 30 congested situations without any fear for himself and fear for his opponent. He was only credited with three possessions and four effective tackles, but pressure goes beyond actual tackling.

His most memorable came in the second quarter when he spoiled a Chris Yarran mark from a kick across goal, which led to yet another Tigers goal.

He might not kick many goals, but his defensive pressure is one small cog that will improve the Tigers.

He does need to tone it down a bit, sometimes I felt he was hindering our other forwards the way he kept flying around
Made me laugh the way he was launching himself

Thought he done really well.
What many have missed to say was his relentless attack on the footy when the ball hit the deck. There were a couple times he smashed through 2 or 3 Carlton players he didnt get the ball but it did force a ball up.

In the second half Carlton had no idea how to get out of defence.

Spot on. A couple of those frees were a bit iffy too I reckon. There was one where he slid in and gave away a free which was unnecessary as the ball was already pretty much locked in. Anyway, I like the move.

i think thats the real purpose of him being there, and really its the same as when he is in the back pocket. me may not have got the ball, but he bloody well made sure carlton didnt either.
