There was an article in this mornings Herald Sun that suggested that the Tigers were interested in having Steven Tingay train with us over the summer with a view to drafting him in December.

I have no doubt that a fit Tingay would be one of the better midfielders going around. However he has played precious little football over the ast few years, and is now 30 year of age. My gut feel is that this represents far too much of a risk and we would be better placed developing some kid, epecially since we have only 38 spots on the list.

CJH, I could live with it if he is on minimum wage plus incentives, similar to what Sav Rocca is getting at Nth Melb. Otherwise the risk to add another midfielder to an already bulging list of running players is not worth the risk / reward. In short I agree with you.

there is an article in today's Herald Sun on Stephen Tingay.

He is still in 'rehab mode' and will not be able to resume full-time training until late January / early February which is at least a month after the pre-season draft.

The article also states that he met with Richmond officials last week. Garry O'Sullivan is quoted as saying whether Richmond can afford to take the risk , as it now appears that his injury was manageable.

I am still of the opinion that we would be better placed putting our energies into developing a young player instead.

I very much doubt whether he will be able to play again which is a shame because he was a great player. If Melbourne got rid of him it indicates to me that he is unlikely to play again.

He seems to be a bit undecided on where he wants to play senior footy in 2001, first the eagles, then richmond, now the swans. Would it be a fairly big risk for a club to recruit a player who's 29 and had a large run of injuries?
