I read in Tuesday's Herald-Sun that Matthew Stokes is in line for a call-up this week after a good performance in the VFL last weekend? Anyone heard any more on this?

Run with role on Aaron Davey perhaps? He played on Thurley last week and did a reasonable job. He was outsized and muscled deep in attack by Thurley but was good around the ground. Davey doesn't have the same strength and overhead ability of Thurley so it might be a goer. Pace would be the only question mark, although he would have to be quicker than Hunt!

Looked ok in the NAB series and from reports has been doing very well in the ressies.

Wouldn't hurt to play him, can't do any worse than some of the players currently in the team
 
I think Geelong ressies are looking much better then previous year/s. Seems like Grima (big hopes for him!), Gamble (nice grab ;) ) and Stokes have been playing some solid football in there. I reckon Geelong shouldn't be affraid to elevate players from the ressies if the are playing well and instead of waiting if injuries. If Gelong make a bold move and drop Kelly this week for Stokes, then it sends a message through the squad that no position is safe, even if you are a 'senior' player.

Good on them.

Lets hope Nath and Varcoe can get a big more of the pill this week in the ressies.

P.S was Nath in the ruck last week?

If he isn't careful, Kelly could be finding himself in the magoo's for a while...
 
The kid can play although doubt he'd play on Davey ......my reports from VFL are that's he can win the ball but is a bit one dimensional - hence why Bomber asked them to get him to play a run with role to see how he'd go.

As for Varcoe ---- plenty of time and looks to be playing a different game according to a bloke who played with him in the VFL last week.

Stokes is the Bernie Vince of the Geelong football club.

Both the same age and both from Woodville, both in their first years of footy.

Hope the lad does well if he gets a game.

Stokes did nothing last week to warrant a call up to the senior team. He played off his man all day and got a few touches being a front runner. He was always a step behind his man in the contest. AFL is a way off yet.
