The blues were on the rough end of a few decisions - this was not what cost us - the bombers were peppering the goals - our defence was not simply beaten by the midfield not "putting in" we were beaten by hard running, supremely confident players prepared to take us on at every opportunity.

The commentary reflected what was an awesome game. Truly was outstanding. That lovett bloke was mental. Essendon went straight through the guts, took us on - and beat us.

Blues one around the stoppages, almost all our goals came from stoppages, here in lies the problem. We need to get our game flowing - someone mentioned Gibbs dishing it off - very true. Carry the ball, take em on.

As mentioned after the Tigers game our tackling is soft - although improved where they now stick we need to be as hard as nails. Harder. Teams should FEAR being tackled - when you are tackled you stay tackled. If it means more soft umpiring - so be it - the ball will come back and slow them down.

But that fierce- unrelenting tackling is what is need from our players, every one of them- it is inspiring and a match winning ingredient.

We need walker back - we need another one more midfielder as simmo and carrazzo who came out of no where - appear to have gone back to where they came from.

Essendon beat us - well done to them - we will beat the pies - no doubt.

If we can keep up our third quarter effort for the whole game i think we may shock the pies. I have said earlier today that i dont think the defence should take the entire blame but the midfield should take the bulk of it because most of the goals were through a lack of defensive pressure through the midfield. We allowed players like Lovett to run through, but there was one incident where i believed JR was going to catch Lovett and he was sheppard but with a grab of the jumper, i just thought the umpires would see obvious things like this.

I too have a good feeling about next week although I think the Pies coach is one of the best and may well pants Ratts before it's all over. I have seen the boys go from ________s one week to tackling mentalcases the next so it can be done. What do they need to make them go harder? Beats me.

there's a few ppl on here who reckon JR was watching.

Oh wait, you meant catch! I know the bit you mean, I reckon JR gave up for 2 seconds.

Inspirational Speech perhaps ? Maybe they need to learn of the passion of some of the former players who put on the Navy Blue and certainly the hardness

Certainly wouldn't hurt. How does a Houlihan look an Andy McKay in the eye, FFS?

Should get a few of the Carlton greats in there like McKay, Bradley , Sticks even Ratts. To give them abit of a inspiration speech on what the Navy Blue jumper means to them, and how to represent it when they are out on the field. Might fire a few boys up.

The umpiring was eratic - however the only real problem came with their approach to "chopping" of the arms - their calls were ridicuous but played no significant role in the game - their Tunnelling call (what ever the hell this is) on Eddie Betts when Fletcher Jumped on him was - well - extraordinary - but again - played no significant role in the game.

We are not applying pressure on them (tackles, chasing, etc, when Lovett went down the wing, handed off - then recieved back again I was furious, he should have been covered - you could see what was happening from Wogga ).....

We were also KILLED by our hospital passes - these must be eradicated as they make us look poor. Low flat hard kicks maintain momentum, looping lillopops force player to stop and prop, lose their momentum, their peripheral vision is gone, as is there awareness of their surroundings and sets them up for the holding ball decision and turnover coming their way.

Flat hard had passes and kicking skills are the order of the day - Judd, Stevens need to take this on board and show the others how to kick. They are our leaders and can both do it - everyone on the team kicking like Buckley and hand balling like Deisel is going to win a flag (and tackling like Eddie).

Paul Bower is the poster boy for this style of play atm unfortunately. Looking forward to him showing he can learn not to do it in the future.

The main reason that we lost is because we are still making basic mistakes / skill errors that result in goals.

A few of those costly errors were:

1. Scotland giving away a dumb free kick before the bounce that resulted in a goal to Peverill

2. Murph's poor chip that Fletcher tried to smother but actually marked in the third quarter that resulted in a Lovett goal.

3. Russell poor kick to Bannister with about 2 minutes to play of the third quarter. An unforced skill error as he only had to put out in front of Bannister to run onto it. But JR popped it up, ball spoiled and then a Lloyd goal.

4. 15 seconds to go before 3 quarter time we allow the Dons to clear from a stoppage and kick long to Mc Phee for a goal after the 3 quarter time siren.

These were all very fundamental errors that we as a team need to eliminate from our game if we want to start chalking up a few wins.

No one to blame but ourselves.

great attitude - we can not let go of this - If the players are honest with themselves and take on the burden of failure - then victory is also theirs and theirs alone.

We had them by the short and curlies but we have lost the ability to win. We need to rediscover on how to win from these situations.

A hell of lot of positives from the game though!

Have to learn how to move the ball better. Essendons handballs were low and bullet-like, enabling them to run the ball down the ground much quicker than we could. How many hospital hand passes or kicks do we make...too many.
I cringe when I see one of those high looping handballs that seem to take forever to get to the receiver...it's like something out of the Matrix. Unfortunately we play in real time guys. Got to go more direct to, still too many possessions, 36 more than Essendon. Still I felt that our general play has improved with each game...just got to run hard for 4 quarters. Please do it this week boys...I'm starting to look like Homer Simpson.

Kreuzer popped a perfectly weighted 'lillopop:eek::thumbsu:" in front of Fev who took an easy chest mark without breaking stride.

Was a great bit of play for anyone let alone a first gamer.

The disposal must match the situation.
