I actually woke up this morning feeling quite sorry for Dane Swan. Not because he didnt win it, as i think Judd played just as well within the brownlow voting concept.

What i feel bad about is the way he was paraded around at the beginning of the show like it was all over and the votes didnt need to be counted. You could see the poor bloke wasnt very comfortable and for the rest of the night he looked like a smacked puppy.

I imagine any feelings of loss or disappointment he might be feeling now would be due to the massive beat up the media gave him.... without all their bulls**t all season i dont think Judds win would be that huge a deal.

The media made sure Swan favoritisim was blown out of proportion and made a joke of. That's why there are so many tools going on about how they thought he should have won. Because the media get it into peoples head that he should.

The Brownlow became a circus to an extent.

Sorry for the intrusion but I would add that the non stop bleating from betting agencies added to this. AFL needs to have a real hard look at itself in regards to this. Every media outlet is now tied to one of these.

I listened to SEN @ work yesterday and heard Neil Evans telling everyone everyhour how short Swan was and how punters were jumping on at silly odds.

Watching the count I had Andy Maher & Matthew Campbell spruiking the live odds at every opportunity followed by bet247 adds.

It's over the top IMO.

Couldnt help but laugh at the start when Swan & Ablett where paraded down the catwalk, pathetic by whoever thought of that.

I got the feeling by the other stuff in the coverage that Hodge was supposed to be up there too but refused. Good on him too, it was stupid.

Spot on.

What were the bookies odds on Swan winning? 1.80 or so? That's probably a better representation than the media hype that had him shitting it in.

Violent agreement.

Absolutely ridiculous. Every radio station, television outlet, live at the footy, the papers, internet sites and more.

Incredible the amount of 'issues' that get pumped up by the media, when the involvement of betting agencies has the support of the AFL at every level.

I have to agree. The spruiking of changing odds after each round was a disgrace. I've got no problem with people having a punt on it, but making it so in-your-face was not a good look.

Bang. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

It really is the elephant in the room for the AFL. They bang on about illicit drugs, respect towards women etc but they have a massive problem here. I work with kids and all I heard all week from young boys was "Swans at $ 1.80" and Sandilands being "good value" with sportsbet. Really takes away from what these things are supposed to be about.
I would be surprised if the conversation is not being had at headquarters because it will bite them hard one day.

No question. Dr Turf was on about it this morning. The ICC allows spot betting and can't understand it when Pakistanis become millionaires. What's to stop some fringe player kicking out directly to the opposition and cleaning up on first goal kicked? I know there are fluctuations they take note of but gambling basically wrecks everything it touches.

As relationships go its almost as ill-fitting as the Tattersalls Emergency Centre at the Royal Childrens Hospital.

Great to have a place to treat neglected children with gambling addicted parents. Some people get paid off pretty cheap. :o

My thoughts exactly. It was ridiculous.
You won't see that happen again.
Judd = class act ! Wish he was a magpie, thus I'm envious

The whole thing was a bit of a circus really. Swan looked seriously uncomfortable out there and looked like he couldn't wait to get off the stage, I think Ablett felt the same way. What they were doing out there I have no idea. I think the thing about the Brownlow these days is that the favourite gets so hyped up and talked about in the media that gets to the point of being ridiculous. In other words, you've got one or two "deserving" winners on the basis of their betting odds while if someone who is just as deserving is seen as lucky. I think the betting outlets have a lot to do with this, there's so much riding on these blokes to win it. The same thing happened with Ablett a few years ago, and I really felt sorry for him then, he was hyped a massive amount, and even if players shrug it off there's still quite a bit of pressure to win it if you're one of the favourites. Juddy was a deserving winner, I thought, was very gracious in his acceptance of the award and acted with humility. It didn't come as a shock to me at all that he won it, the only reason that it came a shock to people is because of the massive overblown hype which always seems to surround the favourites.
