read somewhere that street grew 3 cms last year, so is now 211cm. article claimed that he was now same height as sandilands, but I thought that guy was 215?

weird to be still growing at 23yo, but there you go. if he is still growing up, he will find a hard time utting on muscle.

That is a bit bizarre! What did people think of his intra club efforts? I liked a few of the grabs he pulled in, he managed to get his hand to the footy in the ruck against an agressive opponent but probably didn't have much purpose with the taps.

Not sure if a horses for courses set up is appropriate if we want to be winning flags but for some reason we look better when he is out there and if we can exploit an opposition's ruck division then he may have some role to play. FWIW I'd have Wilbur ahead of him in my selections regardless.

Am I reading you right? Are saying he took a mark in play?

At this rate, by the time he's 30 he will be 232cms or 7 feet 6 1/2 inches.

Should get a few taps then.

Last season I thought the club was being 'creative' with the players heights.
Darcy listed for many seasons at 196cm shot up at the age of 27 to 198cm.
Morgan who had been with Port for a few seasons at 194cm suddenly went to 195cm and Street went from 208cm to 209cm. There was a few other examples of players gaining height as well.

After reading that Street is still growing at his age it makes you wonder again just how tall he might end up.

With the new rules in the centre square mainly the shorter run up I wonder if that will assist the really tall players or not.

i only saw the one mark, it was at the geelong rd end, there was a 3 man pack forming and he crept round the back (as much as a 210+cm man can creep) of the pack, stuck his giant tentacle like arms in the air and snatched the ball without even getting off the ground. The wind might of helped a touch but it was damn amuzing. Then came the kick, street seemed to walk within a step of the man on the mark, then swung his giant leg at the ball which went almost straight up in the air. From 20 metres out on a slight angle the ball would of gone 30+ in the air and just dropped over the line.

If he was only as good as he is tall.

He took a few grabs, kicked a goal and gave Minson an absolute spanking, so what does that say about Minson's ability?? If only Minson was as good at footy as he is at undirected aggresion. I don't think Minson had a tap out and gave away so many free kicks, Street at his frustrating best, ha!

Minson has 5 more year before he reach Street's excellent playing standard.

the guys about 15cm taller,
and i don't recall him winning that many hitouts, or do much else.
I'm not just sticking up for will but I thought it was about evens but will
didn't do a hell of a lot your right, street was no clear winner in my eyes.

Other way round. Will couldn't get his hands on the ball during ruck contests. After the contest, Will went charging round the ground whilst Street drifted forward or back in the corridor. Street won every hit out. When not competing, the two playeddifferent sorts of games.

Not much use being that tall if you can't influence a game of football. He is about as mobile as the Whitten oval windsock. I can't believe the club offered him a 3 year contract.

Why do people still even give Street a chance?

How does him 'beating' an inexperienced, junior player in an internal trial provide for such optimism?

Apple, your first sentence might have something to it if Street couldn't beat Minson. Don't forget that Minson is touted on this Board as a future gun. Nobody is terribly optimistic because of his performance. He brings a different quality to the club to that of Minson or Darcy. In some games, that will be very handy. The jury is still out on him but he's still young in big man terms and there is plenty of upside as long as you don't expect him to be a ruck rover too.

Just making a point on the fact that i think Will is a teeny bit overrated. Hasn't really done anything to warrant the hype other than being a mountain of a bloke. It's amazing how people on theis board are so quick to come to this man's defense, as if he is the new darling of the club. Im yet to see anything that can convince me he will be either a good player or ruckman. Did i mention that Street bent him over and gave him a spanking!!

They way people go on about "BIG WILL" you would think that he has been around for ten years and is a real force. So be careful about calling him junior or inexperienced on this board! The fact is he has been around the club long enough, so no he is not junior oe inexperienced, just overrated and yet performe on a level congruant to his hype. As for Street, well no shti he is a poor footballer which is my point, play that scratch match five times over and Peter would wins all five times.

Were you at the Bulldogs intra club match or another, perhaps one in your mind?

Minson won hit outs. He also got to the play before Street did. He has it all over street when it comes to getting to contests.

You're obviously leaning towards the Anti Minson sentiments if your posts are anything to go by, and i think you're a little bit influenced by your bias.

I'm not saying Minson was the bee's knees on Saturday, but to say he didn't win one hit out says to me you weren't paying attention to his game and were looking for as many negatives as you could find.

Wilbur copped a lot of criticism after the intra club game. I don't it is fair to say he is the protected 'darling' of the team on this board. The reason we are all optimistic about the kid is because he is different. Wilbur has a bit of character about him, is a big unit, plays his footy hard and through hard work has been able to make people take notice.

I was there, the question is, where you? It's all good and well getting to a contest, it what happens at a contest that interests me!!!!!!!! saying he won no hit outs was just to exagerate a point, im sure he won a couple. Im not anti anyone, you make it sound as though were talking about a germ, its just there seems to be a high level of incongruence between the excitement Will creates and his performances last year and to date. I just read the post by Son of Scray and maybe it's just that im looking in the wrong places when it comes to Wilbur. I wanted to bring up this discrepency with posters and see what the reaction is. I don't think im part of the popular thought on this one. Supporting the bulldogs has taught me to really reserve my excitement and not get to far ahead of myself, so Will will get all the prasie in the world in due course, that is if he delivers.

A wise philosphy my friend. We have a lot of "potential" guns on our list, but only Cooney really showed straight away that he can do what was being touted about him before he arrived. Murphy has grown into the player he is, others have been spasmodic at best. Minson may become a gun, he certainly is a long way from it now, although it is hard to judge someone who has only played a couple of games. People who are getting carried away with him should take a deep breath, let the boy play as many games as he can this season, and see where is by the end of it. He is being turned into a pseudo-cult figure based on one bump at senior level. Some perspective, please..... same applies to Street. All those talking up Minson seem to think Street is a dud. As Otto said, in terms of ruck experience, he is quite young. Let's give them both some time to show their wares.

Why not talk him up though? He is one of the quickest developing big men that any one would have seen, and certainly quickest i have ever seen. The past dictates that he wouldn't be ready to step into the ruck position for another 3 years. Will dictates the he can do it now. It's hard not to get excited by what he is capable of. No one is getting excited from the one bump he laid on the little red headed germ. They're getting excited by the total pack. The 19/20 year old who's massive, has very little body fat, can run, jump and play in a position that by all rights he shouldn't be ready to play until he's in his early to mid 20's.

If Will Minson was a first round draft pick, with massive wraps on him from the under 18 competition, coming up for his first season in league football, he'd have the weight of the world on his shoulders because every man and his dog would be talking up what he could be.

Will Minson is a player who's coming upto his third season. He is a talent, and he's ready to go. Unleash him, build him and get excited about him. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing at all.

We're a side who's come off two really really bad years of football. We've had nothing to look forward to. Now we have. We have EVERYTHING to look forward to. The building up of Will comes from the fact that we're excited, and he's exciting.

The writing off of Peter Street comes from the fact that we paid way too much for him, he's not very good, he's not mobile, he's a terrible kick, and his greatest ruck achievements come from playing a team that had no ruckman. Street's been in the system a far sight longer than Will, so the expectation is higher and he failed to produce. It's simple.

Sporty, there's a difference between talking him up and getting carried away. Some people make him sound like a superstar. Chris Judd is a superstar, Will Minson is someone who could generate excitement beyond our club if he develops accordingly. All I'm saying is let's not get ahead of ourselves.
