Hey guys,
at around half time on the weekend I started to get a lot of pain on the outside of my right foot mainly in the middle between my heel and toe... continued to play but after the game was in a fair bit of pain. Iced it up and now today it is slightly better but still feeling quite sore... is this a possible stress fracture? I have never had any leg injuries before?

Could be a stress fracture or just a bone reaction at the base of the 5th Metatarsal which is not uncommon.
Doctor or Physio can refer for an x-ray which may or may not show anything but is cheaper/easier than a bone scan or MRI. If the X-ray is clear and the problem persists you can get the other
Usually caused by overtraining, or not graduating training and combined with some biomechanical issues.

From what the doctor told me, at the start of exercise the foot is quite sore (say 6/10) in the middle of the exercise the pain is less (4/10) then once you've stopped the pain is at it's worst (8/10)
If that sounds like it, then it's probable. Just go to the doctor and get an XRay (although they can often be inconclusive with possible stress fractures)

Cheers guys, it isn't AS sore today as it was yesterday, I haven't been doing cardio to try and not aggrivate it. I will get the trainer at footy to have a look at it tomorrow and if it is still sore will go to the doctors...

Hope it isn't anything bad because i know the recovery time is about 6-8 weeks.

Was an ankle strain... apparently the top of the foot in front of the ankle bone is where all the ligaments join.. strapping needed for a few weeks... big relief

I have picked up an injury in my shin. I know what most of you think, its just shin splints, but I have had shin splints and this isn't it.

On my right shin about halfway up on the inside (facing my left leg) I suffer acute pain, more direct than shin splints, especially when not warmed up. I have continued playing through it and found once I have warmed up, I find the pain goes away. Then after the game it comes back with vengeance, am wondering what this could be.

i currently have shin splints, and have been told by my physio that they can lead to stress fractures if not healed successfully, its possibly that your shin splints may be worse now, or that you have suffered a stress fracture, i recommend going to a physio straight away

Hmmm its tough, our team is likely to make it to the finals and it doesnt affect my running too badly. I will last out the season then go to the physio I think

I'm having pains when I run or kick atm bottom of my buttock top of my hammy, both legs, any help?

it really depends whether it is a muscular pain or otherwise, unlikely to be a stress fracture IMO because the bone that runs up the human thigh (the femur) is very strong... it may be, but i have never heard of that being the case in that area... probably muscular, see a physio :D

definitly sounds like a stress fracture (although mine were in my foot not shin)

Spoke to the club trainer last night, he definately thinks it is a stress fracture, but says I can play through until the end of the season and then get x rays and treatment

treatment before it's too late is probably not really going to work i think

why not treatment now? even just to manage it?

if you're not right for finals then you won't play

I think i have stress fracture in my left leg becaues i like to exercise at night watching tv. Jogging inside my room in one segment of the exercise and i run on hard floor with a thin mat as cover. And in the last couple of month i got persistent pains in the leg everytime i put weight on it.

I was recently diagnosed with a stress fracture in the foot (5th metatarsal). Had the problem for a year, saw a physio, got x-rays, tried strapping the foot, icing, etc ; eventually tried another specialist & got an MRI scan which identified it.

Has anyone else had a similar injury? Any thoughts advice re treatment, what works or doesn't?

In particular, any way to avoid immobilation? I'm travelling overseas for 3 weeks soon, would like to be able to walk around freely.
