Recently there is much talk about the new look forward line that we will develop in the future and i believe that we should be looking at an open, work on the counter attack type of one like the bulldogs(sort of) where we have players running on to the ball. Have a big man like a kreuze in the square whilst players like yaz, garlett and eddie all roam (at least we know they can track back and pressure when the ball has been squandered). Open forward line which the players can use their space to demonstrate their skill, speed and quick movement of the ball to hurt teams quickly on the break provided the ball is moved quickly.

Also, would like to know why people actually see brisbane as a threat?? Lost dalziell, bradshaw, pick 12 (most likely quality kid) and hendo(going to be a gun), riska most likely unsettled, and have acquired list cloggers (nothing special) players in staker, clarke and buchanan to fill up the list again. Acquired a 29 year old who would be unsettled and needs to gel in the team, another quality fwd who is getting on a bit too and have a mid tht is ageing in black and power ( ball isn't going to get fwd as easy as u think). Their future is nothing and voss has made errors, he is sacrificing a long term sustaining of achievement for a desperate one year tilt at a flag which they most likely wouldn't win. My bold prediction tbh....6th or 7th, reckon we will finish higher too :)

i agree with having an open forward line, with a tall at ff and let yaz betts and co. feed off them. But i think hampson could be a better option than kreuzer, his athletic attributes are better (although his marking is not) but at his height and speed off the mark would be nearly impossible to stop if he can manage to hold the pill.

also agree regarding brisbane. I don't think they'll make the 8 next yr. Looking at their ins and outs from trade week. It appears they have worsened their team if anything. If voss doesn't get a flag out of this then he has seriously messed up their team long term.

couldn't agree more

they traded away youth and promise for crap
this time next year i reckon they will be grilling voss about the trade week of 2009 and how they wasted their picks and how their new players contributed nothing except for maybe fev.

carlton won medium-longterm in the trade and brisbane may not even win in the short term

I think we stil need big targets forward and Waite, Kreuzer and Hendo will rotate through there and be more than a handfull, I like the idea of having running forwards like Yarran, Betts, Garlett and Robbo. They need to increase their endurance so they can work harder, cover more ground and be able to really run hard and fast when tired.

Love what has been said here.

Our midfield is more than capable of kicking goals on the run like Bulldogs too. Talented smalls in Betts, Yarran and Walker around tall targets like Kreuzer, Waite and Henderson isn't doomed for failure like the haters believe. Also, we will have the likes of Judd, Warnock and Hampson resting forward to damage sides. Pick 12 may very well be a forward, hopefully it is and he makes an impact. Players like Thorp that have parted with their respective sides may also assist us.

Couldn't agree more with Brisbane. They've made a big error. Dalziell, Hooper, Macdonald and so on > than cloggers like Staker, Buchanan and Clarke. Only decent short term addition is Fevola. But is only 20 goals better than Bradshaw and a loss of team morale. Have traded away youth for a unsuccessful tilt at the premiership.

Great OP.
Obviously without Fevola, we are going to be far less predictable going forward, which we have all Summer to work on, and get as right as we can. I think the only player that will spend a fair bit of time down there is Henderson, and obviously Betts will get to his feet.

Will make for some very interesting viewing next year, that's for sure.

Agree with almost everything said here on both counts. :thumbsu:

The only disagreement i have is that i think Kreuzer is too valuable to our structure and play though the middle to be played forward, whether permanently or not, Personally i think that if Warnock would be a better option playing a Will Minson type role, as he's strong enough, smart enough and amazingly agile enough to do so.

Even Cloke would be suited to such a role if this type of foward line is the direction we take.

As for the lions, they will finish 6-10 next season, depending on how well Brown and Fev play together, and if their midfield can stay injury free thoughout the year, as they lack depth through the middle.

No doubt Voss approach to trade week will be scruitinised come the end of next year, just how, we'll have to wait and see.;)

This is the most ridiculous thread I have ever read. Can Carlton supporters please tell me what they have against us (the lion's). We haven't lost anyone that would have helped us win a premiership, Daziel was junk, Henderson couldn't hold a spot (He will get better with time though), Hooper was lazy, Macdonald wanted to go back to Melbourne and we replaced Bradshaw with a colman medalist.
Next year will be very interesting, but unlike most I hope you guy's do well, but I do think you guy's aren't giving us any credit.
Don't forget the Herald sun gave us an A+ for our trade week move's.

Very early days you'd agree.

I for one actually agree with you. Effectively the only player of significance who you lost was Bradshaw and also Henderson to a degree, although he's a loss for your future not present.

You did lose draft picks but from all accounts it's a weak draft and apart from the first round pick Brisbane traded, the rest are almost a lottery.

Yeh i understand people's opinions about having some1 else rather than kreuze going through there. I just used him to give an example, obviously he will be there at some point but wouldn't want him there permanently either, variety and constantly changing it up is good as it makes it harder for other teams to develop a clear way to quell the threat and they will struggle to get settled dealing with one formation.

Tancas not sure if its a dislike but just saying long-term u have affected yourselves for the negative a bit by trading away talent for some hopeful one off push for a flag but i suppose pressure is on voss to deliver now. Advantage: a quality fwd for three decent years, disadvantage: a significant culture change :P

Dalziel, bradshaw, hendo, pick 12 (most likely) >> staker, buchanan, clarke( the best team were happy to flick him), and a three year fev who may crack the shits about not being the centre of attention :)
