In 1990 you had the SOS campaign. You told all the players that money was tight and they had to take pay cuts. By 1993 they were still being told the club was in debt and they had to accept that money was tight. Then you announce that you have all the money in the world for Lockett. Lambert, Hogg and others cut-up rough and those two leave at the end of 93.

The trade for Lockett doesn't go through at the end of 93 because you couldn't organise a trade; You went back at the end of 94 and offered "Wayne Campbell and 4 duds". In the end the deal with the Swans got them players and picks that translated to Joel Smith, Darryl Wakelin, Robbie Neill, Josh Kitchen, Glen Nugent and Chris Hemley.

With Mal Brown forcing John Northey out of the club at the end of 95, and the above chaos, it is probably not such a surprise that Maxfield (and Chris Naish) tried to get to Sydney.

Please tell us more how we announced in 1993 that we have money for Lockett, but couldn`t get a trade done that year?

are you re writing history, I think you ll find if you read stan alves book that the afl made it st Kilda s $$$$worthwhile$$$$ to reject ANYTHING rfc had on the table and take a couple of swans dud in place. had absolutely **** all to do with what we were willing to trade

The point is that Lambert and Hogg left because they thought they had been dudded.
hogg left because we orchestrated a trade to secure Broderick and butch gale to punt rd ...stop coming on here and making things up ...Lambert had $$$$$ in his eyes from the Lions we simply couldn't match and he was peeved to be used as bait for alastair lynch...still, he wouldn't have left for less money:confused:

and off memory, the Lions were so hard up we even threw in some goal kicking nets to get the deal across the line

Hogg was traded out by Bartlett for Broderick and Michael Gale at the time Hogg was the captain of the club.

And like Bartlett later on Hogg didn't return to the club despite being invited. He finally did when they had the tie presentation but not sure if he has been back since.

Lambert left for money he got more at Brisbane than we could give him.

Who do you rate as the biggest losses our club has had as a result of what they did at their next club....

it might be roughly along the lines of.....

David Cloke - top player for Collingwood. Copeland.
Brad Ottens - critical to premiership - probably should be above Cloke.
Graham Teasdale - Brownlow
Craig Lambert - ball magnet
Stuart Maxfield - mentioned in this thread.
Shultz - couldnt bring him along like Port did.
Whale Roberts - before my time but apparently heart and soul of place.
Geoffrey Raines - big loss for us but didnt do alot at Collingwood,Essendon or Brisbane.
Peter Wilson - premiership player.
Rodan - good player for Port.
Barry Young - good solid player
Andrew Raines - meh
Ty Zantuck - meh

Brian Winton ;)

Geoff Raines and David Cloke were the two who hurt most from my end. It was the start of our downward spiral into ineptness. Geoff Raines in particular.

On Stuey Maxfield, I don't begrudge anyone making a living and doing what's best for themselves and their football. He is known within the Swans as the architect of their modern day culture and values within the club.

Bit of JFK in those two leaving. Where were you when the news broke?. I was on a school camp.

I went to school in Kew and David Cloke set up David Cloke cellars on Cotham road in 1983. We used to walk past it on our way to Kew Cemetry bus stop.

Mate dared me to walk in and give him a piece of my mind for leaving Richmond. I was 10 at the time and I walked to the counter.

Out he walked. He was so bloody big I just asked for an autograph.

Geoff Raines tip toeing was a killer.
He was an out and out star,Add Cloke and geez that was big time.
That'd be like Deledio and Jack walking.
And then Brian Wood.
He was awesome.
We don't really have anyone to compare but say if we had a Jordan Lewis type player that would be like him leaving too.
