There has been talk over that past years about the poor quality of tv friendly pitches in the sub continent.

Results seem to be so rare these days, the last test between the windies and India being a recent example.

My question is, is it realistic to expect a "sporting" pitch in the subcontinent, a raging turner is not what I consider a sporting pitch. Is the climate there just not conducive to making a great pitch or is just the bcci getting their 5 days worth.

New Zealand seem to have a similar problem as do the west indies. England, Australia and south Africa seem to be the only places that get anywhere near that sort of sporting deck.

Or is this type of deck even possible to produce??

A sporting pitch I believe is something is there for the quicks in the first session and a bit, flattening out a bit over days 2 and 3 before starting to turn in the final 2 days.

This seems to be the ideal pitch that offers 3 distinctly different match conditions and would do wonders for test cricket.

It's pretty much impossible to always have ideal pitches, because local conditions and geography simply won't allow it. I would rather see some variability however. Why not let the Indians produce minefields? Why not let the WACA have a bouncy, green surface? Why not let the Adelaide Oval have a batsman friendly pitch? Obviously it would be great if pitches could be ideal, and it does make for good viewing, but I think that variability is the key. I know we were shithouse in the Ashes last year, but every pitch other than Perth was pretty much a road (I think we had ourselves to blame for Boxing day debacle). Change it up, too much emphasis on five days of crowds is hurting peoples enjoyment of cricket.

To be fair, the pitches in India you're referring to have been producing a reasonable number of results over the past couple of years. At least more than they used to prior to this period.

As for "the last test" between India and the West Indies - it was an Indian victory. This one could be one as well as I don't see the Windian batting lineup holding up against the spinners.
