How do you guys rate Subiaco Oval as an AFL Venue.

GO EAGLES

One thing I always notice about Subi is that the actual ground as in turf is always in fantastic condition, perfect for footy. Unlike some of the shocking grounds over in Melbourne.

Fantasic atmosphere too...I love the place.

I like Subi. I used to love Subi.... then I met Colonial & the G. I like both of them better, particularly Colonial. Only detractor would be the surface I guess, but that seems to be better this year?

I love Subi, the ground is awesome and the atmosphere is great. Havent been to any other grounds but hopefully ill watch a game or two at the SCG this year

SCG isn't bad when the Swans supporters are on song. The smaller ground seems to hold the noise in well and make the 20,000 sound like a lot more.

Guess ill find out this year, was thinking about checking out both WA teams at the SCG this year. Although if i cant get to the Dockers game it wont be such a big loss ;)

Subiaco Oval is a great venue for football - not as good as the MCG or better crowd noise than Docklands but still good as far as spectator viewing.

My only gripe is that they should have built the stadium to be 55,000 or 60,000 like Football Park.

Subiaco Oval is a great venue and worthy to host AFL footy and other sports for that matter such as rugby and soccer as it will again in the next 6 weeks.

That gripe would be because the restrictions with the local residents on the southern stand side of the ground which is the only reason the ground wasn't able to reach somewhere near 50,000. But as it is why does Subiaco need to hold that many at footy matches when only the derby matches get over 40,000 these days?

yer i'll definetaly be at the Eagles game at the SCG this year. Last time they played their was a debacle in 2001 when we lost by 70 points or something. Kasey Green's debut, or one of his very first matches from memory.

Do you know what the Eagles do after the match in terms of after match functions at the actual ground. The swans usually have some sort of thing in the members, but i'm unsure if any of the away teams go. I never go to them because I dont care for the Swans, but if the Eagles guys were there I'd definetaly be tehre to catch a glimpse.

Don't know for sure but they may have some kind of supporters function through the partnership with the Baulkham Hills club (East Coast Eagles).

I like Subiaco as well. But after coming back from a trip in Melbourne, it ain't a patch on Telstra and the MCG.

Telstra Dome is like the "perfect" stadium, everything is symmetrical, it's so modern, the only thing is the surface.

MCG... well that is just the MCG.

Subiaco does the job for us WA teams.

Because venues in other cities (mostly Melbourne) have lots of base price tickets which Subi doesn't. If Subi (or Belmont) was 60000 seats you'd have at least 15000 - 20000 cheap seats, which would sell pretty much every week.

Pity about the MCG at the moment. Someone taking the ugly stick to it and all....

It is still unbelievable when you are there in the flesh.

Subi's great, but like others I'd say Telstra & the MCG are better. Telstra in particular for a non-final's game, but the MCG for a final or the Grand final is huge!

Skilled Stadium (?? Geelong) - now there's a ground..... not!

Subi's great, but the MCG is pretty amazing. It's the first ground I've ever been to that looks bigger than you expect after seeing it on TV.

PS: Frodo, there's only a 1 in 5 chance of that.

Maybe ill see you there this year, ill let you buy me a drink ;)

Not sure about after match functions, could probably contact the club beforehand and find out though.... just seeing the eagles in action would be enough for me!

Subi is a great ground, just a bit disjointed in terms of stands have been built independently of each other and maybe it's a little too open. Obviously better to watch footy at than the WACA

Telstra Dome is great barring the surface, coldness and the fact you can't see the play on the boundary nearest you (from top tier). It's also built facing the wrong direction and has well known for ticketing problems. I do like watching the footy there despite the above.

The MCG is fantastic and will probably get better once the new stand is built. Last Eagles game I saw at the G was Rd1 2000, KJ's debut as coach and our huge win over the Roos (and last win there until this weekend).

The last 2 Derbies have been sold out several days in advance and also we get the odd sell out game against the big guns (Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton).

40,000 was what the old Subiaco Oval could hold for AFL games, but with all the constructions and while it looks very nice, the max. capacity is still only 42,000.

If they had a 60,000 stadium with cheaper general admin ticket prices, they would get a lot more bums on the seats.

Here are the photos that EF took.

MCG on Anzac Day, Telstra on Easter Monday and Subiaco on Sundays Derby. Nice comparison, MCG is gigantic. At the Melbourne v. WCE game, they let us on to the ground after the match, the same as Subiaco, and standing in the middle, looking around you at the Great Southern Stand, it's amazing.
