Supercoach has been underutilised compared to Dream Team by us gamers, probably because DT came out first. Supercoach is also mainly targetting the newspaper audience which remains chiefly in Victoria. Nevertheless supercoach is a much better assessment of players performance than DT and as such the Supercoach teams we select usually reflect the better players in the competition. Keeping an eye on the better players can only be a good thing when it comes to knowing thine enemy :).

This forum has been created out of necessity because the previous forum grouped with DT drowned out much of the specific Supercoach content.

Much can still be gleaned from checking out the Dream Team forum, but there are several nuances of Supercoach that many DTers just don't get.

The Supercoach scoring system:

Code:
Stat Description Points Awarded/Deducted
Effective kick 4 Points
Ineffective kick 0 Points
Clanger kick -8 Points
Handball effective 2 Points
Ineffective handball 0 Points
Handball clanger -6 Points
Handball receive 1 Point
Hardball get 4 Points
Loose-ball get 4 Points
Goal 8 Points
Behind 1 Point
Mark uncontested (maintaining possession) 1 Point
Mark contested (maintaining possession) 6 Points
Mark uncontested (from opposition) 4 Points
Mark contested (from opposition) 8 Points
Tackles 4 Points
Free kick for 4 Points
Free kick against -6 Points
Hitout to Advantage 3 Points

Now compare this with the Dream Team scoring system:

Code:
Stat Description Points Awarded/Deducted
Kick 3 Points
Handball 2 Points
Mark 3 Points
Tackle 4 Points
Free Kick For 1 Point
Free Kick Against -3 Points
Hitout 1 Point
Goal 6 Points
Behind 1 Point

Dream team misses out of LOT of performance indicators doesn't it, and while Supercoach is nowhere near a perfect indicator of overall performance, it is impressively more complete than DT.

Please note that a subforum has been created to house the Supercoach Leagues.

Everyone is welcome to visit there.

If you wish to join a Supercoach league then this is the place to go.

If you are already in a league and don't want to take advantage of the prizes and benefits of being in a BigFooty league then you are still quite welcome to use this forum as your home base.

Please remember that the Supercoach Leagues Forum is for Leagues talk and any other discussion should take place in this (Supercoach) forum.

I'm not completely sure what a clanger is?
I think if it's kicked out on the full then it's a clanger. But not entirely sure. :o

Player A kicks ball directly to Opposition player = Clanger. :thumbsu:

FYI

champion data have other stats they use as well!

these stats are not published and consist of a secret formular that rewards players that have an impact on a game..

eg.. kicking the winning goal with seconds to go is likely to score your
player around 40 to 50 points

Casha, i think it can have a negative impact also, in a sense, i remember last year it was late in the last quarter and adelaide were just behind the other team (cant remember who) and scott thompsons score was 98 (gameday live) and he had 3 clanger kicks and his score went way down to 59. Any correlation between some sort of negative impact formula maybe?
Sucked cos he was in my team :thumbsd:

Prime Example:
Armitage against Essendon this year.

Was on about 90 points, tackled essendon player, got a free kick in the 50, kicked the winning goal. Scored 148.

yep i agree totally thats what makes SC more of a challenge:cool:

would be nice to no how it works behind the scenes though:confused:

Sure would, but years and years of hard work and research would have gone into making that ranking system from champion data and to have it made public would not be good at all for their business.

For me there is no comparrison at all between SC and DT. The supercoach scoring system is a system made and refined by champion data over many years, spanning 57 different statistics, with research done into each stat's relevance to winning and losing football games. The dream team scoring system is a system made out of thin air, by ... who knows, spanning 9 different stats with no research done into the relevance of the stats to winning and losing footy games.

I have always said that the champion data rankings system is the closest you can get to knowing exactly how good a player is . . . except for the key backs. I think that a key back's final ranking for a game should be equal to the current system's rankings multiplied by their opponent's average score/game score.

For example, if (just making this up), Ben Rutten scores 63 points, and his opponent, Jonathon Brown, scores 85 points, 26 points lower than his season average of 111, then Ben's score should be 63*(111/85) = 82. Thoughts?

good idea, but would b hard because they swap around and shit like that, just wouldnt be logical

remember kerr's matchwinning tackle in R1 last year. IIRC he got over 200 points in the end....

I'd like to get a few stickied threads up and running, and pinch a few ideas from the Dream Team board. To be honest this one is falling behind a tad - a touch more structure would help.

Some ideas:
- Player A v Player B thread (to put all options in)
- Rate the team above your own (where you rate the above team and post your own)
- Captaincy choices, Round 1

an injury status sticky would be good.
also maybe a sticky for best rookies choices.

that could stop alot of re-occuring question about cog's and sellar etc.

haha was a joke, just wanted to see your team :p.

The structure isn't the greatest, but there are less idiots in this forum then the dream team one :thumbsu:
I know you do! You can wait for a few more days I'm sure.

Yeah, there are less idiots but there is also a lot less discussion. They have some good ideas going over there that work for both, and were handy when the boards were combined.

BJ agaisnt Adealaide would have got 100 points kicking the wining goals in the final quartar with seconds to spare, thats why he got 182 in SC

It had the quarter by quarter SC scores on Fanfooty...
I cant find it now, but from memory he scored something like 118 of his points in the last quarter alone!
