I'm a big fan of the recruiting we have done lately and we have a pretty good strike rate of finding players but something that has cost us has been the two superdrafts. We all know the Molan story but we also wasted picks 25 and 26 in 2001 but got a bit of a find in Miller. But a bigger problem I think is what we have done this year, whilst the blokes we have picked look great besides Weetra who will take some time, my problem is why didn't we take more players. The trade values of Wheatley, Ferguson, Ward or others would have been enough to get picks around the 40-60 area and would get more talent for long into the future. I really hope ND didn't keep players on the list just to help him get another contract. If you think I'm reading two much into this, I might well be but I think our list really hasn't been turned over enough and at the end of this season when we get a new coach we might need a Hawthorn like rebuilding period due to missing out on some promising kids. Just a note, Port who weren't along way off after an injury riddled season ended up taking 7 players last year.

2001 - Luke Molan (9), Steven Armstrong(25), Aaron Rogers(26), Brad Miller (55)

2006 - James Frawley (12), Ricky Petterd (30), Colin Garland (46), Isaac Weetra (62)

When Nicholson did his knee, I think 2001, Lamb came in and did a great job. Starved of oppurtunities after that.

what about jamar, 6th year on the list and still has the mind of a 17 year old. what a dud. paul johnson good pick up but.

Mark Jamar was a rookie, so no big loss if he doesn't turn out to be a player.

We gave up Pick 29 for Paul Johnson, I think West Coast got Matt Rosa for him.

johno will be a gun dont worry, i have a source at melbourne and they will be patient with him. he has one of the best kicks in the team says ND on sen like 2 months ago.

hullsy, although I am obviously an Essendon supporter, I watch a lot of footy, and have many opinions on teams other than Essendon. I have for a long time thought that Mark Jamar is one of the least talented players playing the game, Paul Johnson is a much better prospect for dees supporters. You wouldn't happen to be related to hulld would you? I also share most of his opinions.
