Surgery - Have u Ever Had It

i never have but i found out last week i gotta have shoulder surgery
can anyone tell me wat its like and have any of u had surgery beforet

Having surgery is fun. Lots of nurses fussing over you, just laying in bed watching TV and reading, nurses, drugs, did I metion nurses?

yep...im disabled in my legs (from birth) so ive had surgery 4 times. it isnt fun but u just gotta stay tough and keep working to maintain the fitness back in the operated area. good luck!

Ive had a bit. In my 19 years ive had tonsils out, quite a few operations on my ear (on the waiting list for another now!) and the biggest was probably major surgery on my spine.
Its really nothing to be scared of, ive usually been looked after pretty well. Plus there is plenty of hot nurses

I had the 'Jewish snip' last year (I was 21 at the time). The night before, some 'mates' told me this procedure makes the member significantly smaller. In my dazed state after coming to, the first thing I asked the nurses was "Is my ******** any smaller??Please tell me it isnt". Apparently they ********ed themselves laughing.

P.S. It looked like a rotten turnip for 2 weeks.

P.P.S. I wasnt supposed to 'use' it for 6-8 weeks. I lasted 4 days.

Try and fight the anaesthesia even though it's a losing battle.
And try to remember as soon as you wake from surgery to wipe all the slobber from your mouth and chin as localyokel said there will be heaps of stunning nurses running around.

Why are nurses in surgery alot better looking than ward nurses ?

And don't do what I did, after 4 days the nurse came in and asked if I needed more drugs and I answered "yes". With this she asked where does it hurt, where my reply came "it doesnt, I'm just bored" Guess who was on minimum dosage for the rest of his stay.

Good luck and if the Doctors do stuff up just remember that they are only practising medecine.

How did you manage to last 4 days without going for a pee?

My only experience in a hsopital did include having a nurse shove a pain killing pill where the sun don't shine. Maybe now I understand better why I am married to a nurse.

I've had four operations in my life so far. Two of them were eye operations to try and correct the turn in my eye (one when I was 11 months old, one when I was 3 and a half). One operation on my neck to loosen some of the muscles in there, cause they were so tight they were pulling my head in a direction it's not supposed to go in; that one was done when I was 12. The last one was a patella realignment to strengthen my left kneecap, cause I dislocated it once and then it kept popping out and back in again; that one was when I was 14. I'm 31 now, so the last 17 years have been surgery free. Let's hope I can keep it like that.

Dude you misunderstood me. The doc said 6-8 weeks without 'attending to myself'.

And here we all were thinking "it was either with another or some form of beast", only to find out your 4 days to get off the mark was a solitary effort

Had 4 knee operations same knee, 1 reco, 3 arthriscopes, its not as bad as ya seem, ya get a bit nervous waiting around though, then ya get ya needle and ya off to sleep wake up and its all done

just had the one, to fix my finger after i put it in the food processor when i was 4 or so. Curiosity did kill the cat. and i was lucky to only slightly damage my middle finger permanently

Yeah i had surgery. I was scared at the time but when i woke up after it the only thing i could remember was taking deep breaths then waking up in the bed. Didnt feel a thing.

I've had many a surgical procedure , each time you are nervous before you go under...one epidural in particular was not much fun as it was done by a trainee nurse .
surgery is just one of the necessities in life ..if you need it you need it .
after a few weeks you are glad you went throguh with it .
Just do everything the nurses and doctors tell you and you'll be fine

Funnily enough, I too am looking down the barrell of shoulder surgery.
Hurt my shoulder lifting weights nearly 2 years ago, and has been stuffed ever since. Have had X-Rays, Ultrasounds, MRI's, everything you could think of, and absolutely nothing has shown up anywhere. Have tried every conceivable treatment available ie. physio, cortico-steriod injections (sp?), Bowen Therapy, acupuncture, and nothing has helped.

The doc reckons I have no other option but to go under the knife, but i've been putting this off for a while now, and are reluctant for a number of reasons. Firstly, it would basically be exploratory surgery with absolutely no guarantee's, except for the extensive lay-off following the op.
Secondly, have been warned off shoulder surgery by a number of people, and have heard some horror stories about the procedure. More than 1 person has said it was the worse thing they've ever done.

Really don't know what to do now. Not keen at all on the surgery, but am basically useless ATM, can't do anything even remotely physical.
