Just wanted to give a special mention to Andrew Carrazzo and Brad Fisher. Before this game, i considered them probably our two worst set shots at goal. both kicked good ones tonight. I gave Fisher absolutely no chance in hell in slotting htat goal he kicked from the sideline, but it was straight through the middle. Then Carrazzo stood up at the end. Although he completely shanked a set shot at goal earlier in the match, he was the one who put our final term pressure onto the scoreboard with a solid set shot at goal.

Was also just wondering on ppls thoughts on our forward line without waite? I think waite is a star, and i have no objections with his move to defense, but what do ppl think of our forward line without him? With JK still developing and Fisher inconsistent, we really do rely a lot on fev. Whitnall can do great things, but do ppl agree with me that he hasn't shown much at all so far during our last 2 games?

I too was surprised to see these 2 goals go through the middle!

When carazzo was about to take his shot on goal, my dad and i both shared a knowing wince. Gladly he slotted it, and i declared in delight, "well, he was due for one"

In regards to Waite. He can be a great forward for us at certain times. But i think having him in the backline frees up our forward 50 a bit and gives blokes like fev and fisher a bit more room to move about.

Have you noticed that things have been moving a bit more smoothly lately? (sure its only 2 games but what the hell)

Hopefully Waite can become a player similar to Hunter, moving forward when we need him to at critical moments.

All in all, i think the structure is finally starting to look very sound.

Fisher is just an ordinary kick, but he delivered with that shot. I hope he refines his technique so we see more of that and less of the other.

Carazzo is a better shot than he lets himself be. I'd suggest he go have hypno-therapy or such so that he looks forward to having set shots and believes he can nail them. He's such a ball magnet, it would push him up into the elite class if he could finish regularly.

I think Whitnall does a lot of things you don't see or notice. If you're at the game (which I'm not) and you focus on Whitnall you will see what I mean. If you can only watch on TV, then look to the corners of the screen.

Also, well done for giving Fisher and Corazzo thier dues.

When Fish was lining up for goal from the boundary, I actually predicted that he would slot it through. It's got everything to do with his technique.

When he has a set shot, as he gets into his kicking stide, he almost stops, ala Earl Spalding, which immediately has your body weight go backwards, which in turn send the ball left to right.

Amazing they can kick the difficult shots but give them a simple shot and they generally miss. I remember Carrazzo missing from 20m directly in front last year but getting one from an impossible angle.

ALL in the mind.

Lol wen fisher was lining up for that goal, i was sitting on the couch, by myself, at like 1am, and i actually smiled and said at loud he has no chance in hell lol. how wrong i was lol. i dont think fisher is a horrible kick at goal, but i have to admit, i thought it was beyond him. stoked he kicked it tho

i was sitting right behind the kick and it was going through from the minute it left his boot. fantastic goal, i've seen a few games at local and afl level where goals from the pockets at aurora stadium are very hard to kick, but to Fish's credit he slotted the ball through the middle.

great goal fish :thumbsu:

ALL in the mind.
You are correct in saying this.Hopefully these pressure goals they scored will unlock the mental block they both have when it comes to set shots and become the much needed help Fev needs. In particular how good would it be if Fish could pitch in with 2 or 3 goals a game.

Brad Fishers kicking seems to have gone down hill since he did his knee judging by these stats:
2003 - 18(goals).5(behinds)
2004 - 16.9
knee reconstruction
2005 - 13.8
2006 - 7.11

one word - confidence.

Any injury, especially a knee reconstruction can dampen the confidence of a player. If only he could forget about the injury, and pretend it never happened, and play like he is 100% fit, and have the confidence of Fev when he's good... he'll be fine.

Goal kicking really is all about confidence. 90per cent mind, 10 per cent body.

As a rule though, Fisher really needs to work on his kicking, and that will start with his technique. He needs to spend some quality time with Craig Bradley, and in no time he'll be slotting them through post high right over the goal umpires head!
