Surprise packets?

Who do we all think will be the surprise packet(s) of 2004.

Last season they were definitely Adam Schneider and Lewis Roberts-Thomson.

I reckon we might see a bit more of these players next season:

Jarrad Sundqvist - Probably has to step up next year, and I think he will. Seems to have quite good pace and great foot skills. Could probably play across half forward, or possibly on the wing.
Could be a future midfield/half back/half forward prospect.

Luke Ablett - Was retained by the club this year, which was a surprise to some after being given many chances. He impressed me in his last few games in his endeavour and his hand and foot skills. Could probably be a bit leaner, and could be a big mover in 2004.

Mark Powell - Showed last year that he can mix it with the big boys. Probably needs to add a bit of weight to his very slight frame, but once he does he will be a very good prospect. Can take a very good overhead mark. Courageous player.

Ryan O'Keefe - Already a well known Swan, but I think he can make his mark in 2004. I see him as a potential centreman/forward pocket type. Should be an interesting season for Ryan.

Ben Fixter - Will come back from injury in 2004. I hope he can repeat his 2002 or do better. If he has trouble again, we might see the end of this kid

Sean Dempster - Should definitely play in 2004. Saw a bit of him last year in defense and he looked extremely impressive.

Its hard to judge on a lot of the other players, as they are all very young and haven't played senior footy. These players include Malceski, Thewlis, Schmidt, Willoughby, McVeigh etc.

Should be an exciting season for a Swans supporter in any case!

Ablett needs to show something we took him above Coughlan and we know he has talent he just needs to show this talent.

Ablett needs to lose some bulk (not just weight, but muscle mass too) a la Stuie Maxfield. He has the talent and the dedication but not the lightness of feet (yet)

I think Pebbles will have a superb year, as will Fosdike, if the signs to date are anything to go by (and similar things were being said of Jude and Kirkie this time last year). I have a feeling that both of these players have learnt a lot from Roos and the rewards the efforts of Goodes, Kirk and both Boltons have reaped from hard work.

As a smokey I am tipping Matt Davis might get a bit of game time. The coaching staff have put big raps on him already, and he seems physically far more advanced than even some of the 2nd and 3rd year recruits. He may be young but he seems strong, talented and fast, but relaxed enough not to freak out when his opportunity comes. Another Roos in the making?... Here's hoping

Jarrad Sundqvist - Never really rated too highly, has seemed very slow with his skills and on his feet, could be good but not great

Luke Ablett - Like the look of this 'reformed' Ablett. Since his debut he has shed a few kgs, sharpened his skills and is getting quicker by the day. I reckon he will exceed his cousin in 2 years time.

Mark Powell - The most under used Swan this year. A great mark who reads the play exceptionally well, he is our true answer to the Saddington problem, of a player who can play either height, a solid grab in the air, knows when to punch and has speed. A real goer for 2004, high prospects.

Ryan O'Keefe - An absolute gun of a player. Like Powell, he is a terriffic talent, a dead eye **** and one of our strongest overhead marks.

Ben Fixter - Will be even better that 2002, after an entire season out of our firsts, looked solid when in ressies, but has a great season ahead after a full pre season.

Sean Dempster - Looked great in ressies at full back and someone that could make an impression. He did however look slightly slower than opponents but has a fine kick on him.

Paul Bevan - The club has obviously got a lot of faith in him if he was retained as the only rookie, a very fit and skilled player

Scotty Mcglone - By the looks in the 2's will be an absolute belter in the seniors, this guy will be great!!

Maxfield is also looking flabby this year - he didnt look all that gret at a recent training session nor did Williams or Schneider although the latter may need more time to get back into form.

No he won't, he had a great 2002 and was out with injurie during 2003.
