I have got surround sound (5.1) pre wiring done in my home that is getting built.
I also have a 2.1 wired up in the Alfresco.

The bloke that did the pre wiring said if l get a surround sound system with A & B Input speakers l can here anything that is on my TV out in the alfresco. Everything (DVD, FOXTEL) is going to be wired up through the amplifier.

Has anyone got this at their place? And do you advise on what system or brand to buy and how much l would be looking at?

Thanks in advance.

BD2 as your wiring bloke has said, you can achieve what you're after by getting an A/V receiver that has A & B speaker outputs. This will give you your 5.1 surround in your TV room and another pair of stereo outs for your alfresco area. The receiver will have buttons on the front panel to switch on/off each of the two sets of speaker outputs. If you want to be able to adjust the volume in your alfresco area without having to go inside to wherever the receiver is located you could get an 8 Ohm stereo speaker attenuator mounted outside in a dry, convenient spot. Your speaker wiring from the receiver to the alfresco speakers would have to be routed via this attenuator, so if you're wiring is already done it may be too much hassle.

Check out the Denon range of A/V receivers. I'm pretty sure they'll all have A/B speaker outs, and I know that some of them have multi zone capability, so for instance you could have Foxtel running through your main speakers, while you've got a DVD/radio whatever coming through the alfresco speakers. Great to keep the missus/kids happy as you and the boys listen to whatever takes your fancy outside. As far as price goes it's a case of "how long is a piece of string". The Denon receivers start at well under $1k, but you need to choose one that is going to adequately power the speakers you want to use, and which supplies the functionality and connectivity that you're after.

I'd recommend getting into your local reputable hi-fi dealer and discussing your requirements with them.
