Looking for some recommendations for a surround sound system for my bedroom. (Looking to spend max $700ish)

Want it to be able to connect to the following all at once if possible:
- TV (Foxtel)
- PS3
- Computer
- Ipod

Any help would be great.

$700 is very cheap. Does that include the receiver/amplifier?
If it does at that price you are limiting yourself to HTIB. And a cheap HTIB. As far as HTIB goes they're all pretty much the same.

At that price point the Sony Muteki HTDDW7000 will probably give you the best bang for your buck. These can be had for around $900. With 3x HDMI, component and C/V you'll be able to plug in the devices listed. PC straight into your TV (unless you have HDMI).

The muteki is very big. Not sure how big your room is.

Another option is the Logitech Z-5500s which are large PC speakers and more suited to bedrooms than the Sony. These are only $350. You will need to run all video into your TV. The Z-5500 will take optical, coax and analogue audio IN. The PS3 has optical, use the analogue for PC audio. You don't really need surround sound for TV, use the speakers on the TV.

Neither of these two options are good for music. You will not find any speakers at that price that are good for music.

I spent $100 on a 5.1 piece logitech setup which works surprisingly well. You really don't need to spend a lot of money if you place them in the right spots. Of course there are much better systems out there if you have the money, but this may be worth a look for others anyway.

Yep, i grabbed one of these just prior to chrissy mainly for the xbox 360/movies. Does the job really well for those applications, and has plenty of punch. A firing Ak on Cod4 sounds awesome:D

But yeah, lacks the high end crispness of expensive systems for music.

And its big, really big. So unless your bedroom is largish it may be overdoing it a bit.

yeah the mids are a little muddy and the sub drones, but at that price point you won't really get any better elsewhere.

Yes you will. The Sony muteki for $900 destroys it. as do many others. As good as the Z-5500s are, they're PC speakers, not home theatre or hi-fi. They're not big sound so they won't fill a living room and they're not tight enough for music. Especially the sub. They're okay for people on a very tight budget.

The Logitech Z-5500s "You won't find anything as good as this setup for $350" - QFT

I got the Muteki for the bedroom, it's awesome. But probally way to big for it. I dont give a shit tho.

Your lady gaga cd must sound awesome on it mate:D

Get on the sony

I got onto the older model just over 2 years ago, and it does the job extremly well for a bedroom.. 2 x optical in, HDMI in x 2 and HDMI out.. However, i don't bother using the HDMI because for some stupid reason, when you input HDMI (eg ps3, dvd) it doesnt output the sound via the speakers, it onto sends it to the tv.. stupid, i then had to use an optical out for the tv back to the amp, which i couldnt be arsed doing!...

Plus, i read someone before saying to use the optical out on the ps3, but remember if you're going to use thatm you;ll need to use the av's to run the images to the tv, cant use HDMI and optical for the PS3 IIRC

yeah there were quite a few problems with that model and its been superceded now. The HTDDW7000 fixes a few of those bugs. You can definitely run HDMI into the AVR with sound coming out the 7.1 speakers with the current model.

via which cacble do you connect your ipod to such systems..

I have a sony ipod docking station that connects to the Muteki using a digital port.

Its pretty cool, Displays on your tv screen and you can control the ipod using the stereo remote

Requirements have changed a bit from the initial post.

I'm more after some kind of system for my games room, and be easy enough to move to the alfresco area. It would need to put out reasonable sound, without been night club like.

The main need is for the system to be able to play an ipod through it.

I have been looking on DSE and have found http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4a4222ff0c9cff2e273fc0a87e0106b9/Product/View/AE3083
I dont know if its going to be any good, or whether i buy something larger and buy a seperate dock ? This end bit kind of confuses me.

Price range - $200-$450.. again not after an outstanding system.

Recommendations/Assistance would be great!

Maybe get one of those car things that transmit an FM signal? I use one of them in my house sometimes and it goes pretty well. It would eliminate the need for a dock, and you could keep the ipod close to make changes, etc.
