will post some more on it soon

Favorite Things

1. Scratching Post.
2. Breaking news
3. Debate on football issues
4. Breaking news and the wide variety of views and opinions.
5. scratching post - it's not as 'full on' say as any of the other main discussion boards. It's friendly and welcoming, if you have a stupid question regarding football, or anything even- you know you won't be criticized for asking it. Plus good to keep in contact with fellow members.
6. General contribution from posters.
7. vfl discussion as we usually can't watch those games.
8. information on games/injuries/players all in the one place.
9. I always enjoy reading the match reviews made by other posters, it's always interesting to read how other Geelong fans viewed how we played the game.
10. Chit Chat.
11. discussing everything geelong cats related
12. The ability to let it all out with like-minded realists, optimists & pessimists, very cathartic.
13. The Scratching Post, tipping, meet up threads
14. The acquisition of information not readily accessible from other means (newspaper, GFc website etc), that usually arises from diehard fans... Write-ups on the VFL, draftees etc is all great stuff
15. Great place to have a chat about all things geelong, very informative and a good way to pass the week till the next match
16. mainly catching up on any on the spot info , usually the best place to find out.
17. Updates and general gossip
18. Differeing opinions on the team
19. Good bunch of folks to talk footy with.
20. up to date information on training and injuries. I live 6 hours from Skilled Stadium so this is my main way of getting news

22. Good place to get news/rumours and to just stay informed.
23. Latest information
24. Whenever Geelong has a bad week, it's so refreshing to go online and share your pain with other cat sup[porters. I especially love Geelong board MVP, as it's usually spot on to how i see a players performance and it gives you a chance to participate in something. Cat Scans great as well for those who may have missed an article or news on a player.
25. Being able to discuss issues that affect Geelong Supporters
26. The discussion, easy place to get the majority of Geelong news and talk.
27. Topical information and discussion that can't be found elsewhere.

30. Good group of posters that are informed and literate! Always generates good discussion.
31. A Higher class of people because they are cats fans.
32. Footy news and discussion.
33. How it allows for mature discussion without the nuisance of trolls and the like. I also like the player profiles in the Cat Scan section.
34. Usually active around the clock
35. Being able to interact with my fellow supporters and keep up to date with club news.
36. Mostly a good place to put ones thoughts down somewhere and have someone disagree/agree with your opinions.
37. basically all regular posters think before they type, no stupid petty whinging bullshit
38. updated news

Forum Turn Offs

1. Chit Chat Threads, too many of them!
2. Many posters shoot down others if they don't agree with an opinion.
3. Personal comments
4. Certain arrogant posters.
5. Dont really any
6. Uppity snobby posters, how much the board lags it's too slow
7. martyk byrnes threads blake threads
8. nothing.
9. I don't like the fact that when you visit a posters personal page it lets them know you've been there (the last X visitors to this page were:)
10. Not enough meese.
11. I wish there was more members posting
12. Some of the language unnecessary
13. N/A
14. Encountering posters who don't read posts properly before responding, or getting uptight and precious about what other people post
15. there is a certain niche of posters that seem to agree to most issues/ideas and if you dont then your wrong!
16. like a bit of fun also , but some people dont think it should be done on the site
17. Cats supporters turning on their own players (T.Varcoe S.Brynes ect)
18. Not enough thread movement. People argue the same point for 5 days rather than moving on.
19. Fickle supporters.
20. knobs that trash Geelong players (except Byrnes is fair territory!)
21. Nothing
22. Having to put up with other club supporters trolling. It is ok if they have some constructive to say, but most of the time it is to argue about something or to make a puerile comment.
23. can't really think of any ATM.
24. Trollers and whingers
25. Trollers, idiotic opinions, stupid threads.
26. Blind devotion to causes/players and blind bigotry over other players
27. Same posters saying the same thing over and over. Low tolerance to posters with different opinions, whether they or wrong or right.
28. Big headed, negative posters that don't back up their statements with proper reason.
29. Perhaps a little over protectiveness of players. Oh and Hawthorn trolls.
30. Other supporters posting on our board. They have planty of other places to give us a hard time. Mainly hawthorn supporters.
31. Too much bitching and acting like we are a bottom 4 team by bagging players constantly.
32. I don't really have one.
33. Trolls given too much latitude
34. The negativity of some is frustrating, and at times threads do get derailed by self-indulgent 'Cat Scratching' type personal chat.
35. Opposition posters that come onto the cats board and just bag our team. Getting bogged down in discussion/argument with some posters whose sole purpose is not to discuss footy but start arguments.
36. too many hawthorn supporters! people quote stats too often. that guy who writes giant collingwood previews is a bit of a tool.
37. none
38. Peoples inability to cope with opinions different to their own. Strawman arguments, and people who bite others heads off way too quickly, usually supporters of other teams who make an innocuous comment in jest that's met with a mountain contempt from Geelong supporters. Also, fans of Varcoe! haha
39. trolls and people insulting other posters
40. None really... Annoys me how there is a certain 'click' who talk about their personal lives on the main board sometimes.

The biggest overall turn off is trollers, so you can help us by reporting them so we can deal with them more quickly - CF

Your Suggestions

1. monthly competitions and giveaways. (- where do we get the prizes from?)

2. We could use it as a place to organise supporters from different regions. Have coordinators for different activities.

3. Esp in the 150th year, perhaps you could post a bio of all geelong's champs (Hall of Fame, T of Century etc) over the years - say three per week - so that we can all learn more about our heritage. Also, images of all the team badges/logos and shirts etc. This should all be on the GFC website but isn't. (- Done, CF)

4. remove the emphasis on or post counts. The newbie, senior titles etc. Everyone should be viewed equally? It can feel invasive esp. for someone who doesn't post much, to question someones post or something because at times it feels as though you are intruding on certain discussions or your opinions might not be viewed as highly as those that have been around longer. Thus, perhaps making someone feel less welcomed and hestitate to post? i dont know?

(- sorry this is out of my power, your opinion is valued but I agree sometimes you need to get a rep before you are treated OK. Just like in the real world, building relationships take time and internet forums are no different. So hang in there, it wont happen overnight, but it will happen - CF)

5. Not sure.
6. more trav love
7. nope.
8. Not at the moment.
9. Give us a million dollars each. (Tell him he's dreamin')

10. umm since I'm over in New Jersey anything to make me feel like I've been to the game and keep up to date with the club - (How to make someone in New Jersey feel like they went to the game?.....hmmmm I am thinking....ummmmm...yeah.....TAXI!- CF)

11. There are always new ideas sprouting up that are beyond my imagination
12. No
13. not sure if it needs to much improvement...more posters would be good i guess. how about a tip the winning/losing margin type thread? na kinda lame lol

14. We lack discussion of other clubs / players. Although it may be suitable for the main board, I appreciate the input from the people I know, the geelong board. I think it would be healthy discussion. I'm going to start a thread on it anyway, lets see if it is shot down. (- I agree, but on BF you can't have it both ways. Allowing op supporters in will bring the trolls - CF)

15. I would have liked to be added to the SC and DT comps seeing as I asked on multiple occasions. (rizzo's department sorry - CF)

16. nup
17. No
18. scheduled poster debates X vs Y (good idea we will do that - CF)

19. I reckon every teams board should have a sticky section for any opposition supporters to come on and give cheek to, cause it can be fun and it will probably keep some of the trolls out of the main discussions. (not a bad idea, but if you tell people they can troll a thread then they will just troll the whole board. Trolls lack self control - CF)

20. Maybe some more comps with prizes and also maybe the ability to give certain members (non-mods) of the Geelong board to get rid of trollers. (if you think someone is trolling then use the report button - CF)

21. Nope.
22. Nothing that anyone else would like
23. None that I can think of.

24. Pretty good as it is. I quite like it as a place to discuss the Cats, don't think it needs too much razzle dazzle.
25. Nope, I think whats provided is definately good enough.

26. Only that every endeavour should be made to make the board a haven, if you will, for Geelong supporters. I place where we can post about our club without being harassed/trolls by opposition fans. I'd welcome opposition fan interaction, but i think that even a hint of trolling or abuse of our posters (deserved or not) shouldn't be tolerated. (In a perfect world maybe. But this is BF and we are part of a wider community that has all kinds of posters. To be honest things are much improved since I first started posting here in terms of trolls. The best thing to do is use the report button on any trolling post so we can deal with them quickly - CF)

27. Maybe look at getting only genuine posters from other boards to ask for permission to post on our boards. In general things a lighthearted but some posters (mainly hawks) just flock to the board to cause trouble. The survey should have more options especially with "When discussing the Big Footy Geelong Board on other web based AFL themed forums (eg Cats Claw) how do you recommend it?". I never go to other afl themed forums. (Cats Claw is like any forum, some people like it, others don't. It's all about the personalities that use the board - CF)

28. would be good to bring a bit of video onto the board somehow to illustrate points. not sure how though, video is a bitch. (see geelongblog.com -CF)

29. sorry
30. can't think of any

31. None really. Previews/Reviews are great ideas. (credit goes to Chief on that one - CF)
