No real surprise there, did much to redeem himself in my eyes after I wasn't what you could call his biggest fan.

Sven-Goran Eriksson leaves Manchester City 02/06/2008 09:00

Sven-Goran Eriksson and Manchester City Football Club have parted company by mutual consent, the Club announces today.
Chief Executive, Alistair Mackintosh said, “The Board of Directors and all at Manchester City would like to thank Sven for his efforts and contributions throughout the season and we wish him all the best for the future. Sven remains a friend of the Club.”

Sven Goran Eriksson added, “I have enjoyed my time at Manchester City very much indeed and in particular, I would like to thank the fans, players and staff for their amazing support over the season. I wish the Club, and everyone associated with it, much success in the coming years.”

The Club will make no further announcement in relation to the managerial position until after a successor is appointed.

Current favourite is Spanky Hughes , Zico has also been mentioned.

Moomba, interested to know why you don't want Hughes, assuming that it's not solely because of the clubs he played for. :p

At least Sven leaves with a 100 per cent record against United.

More the type of player he was than the clubs he played for. Was always my most hated player from when I started watching to when he retired.

Because a football club has never sacked a manager before

He is probably the best manager that a team like City could realistically get, though that could change with Shinawatra's $$$.

Sven regained a lot of respect from me at least anyway. Given two more years he really could have made something out of that team...

I'm astounded he has gone, absolutely a woeful error by the Manchester City owner.

Just when you thought they got it right, they go and stuff it up! I can see an exodus of players now and will be interesting to see what happens....

Mark Hughes will be a good manager but wont bring in the names that Sven did. Zico will be comedy......

What next?
Thaskin to manage?

:D

We could always sign Curbs with his attacking play, tactical prowess and astute work in the transfer market. :D:D

Ridiculous but expected.

I'm glad he is gone as I thought they would be very good with him at the helm next year.

Hopefully they sign a dud manager.

What's with all the Zico hate? Did well as a club manager in Japan.

Looks like it's almost official :P

Rovers release statement re manager
02/06/2008 11:00

Blackburn Rovers have released the following statement today...

Blackburn Rovers can confirm that they have received an approach from Manchester City for permission to talk to Mark Hughes with regard to him becoming their manager.

Mark has made it clear to the Board he would like the opportunity to talk to Manchester City.

In view of this the Board have decided reluctantly to give permission subject to terms and conditions acceptable to Blackburn Rovers being agreed with Manchester City in advance.

The club will not be making any further comment at this stage.

Tell ya who they should go for... Michael Laudrup. He did great things with Getafe this season. He is also not with any club at the moment.

And in Turkey last season.I recall him making some derogatory comments about the Australian team a while back. Maybe something to do with that.

Something had to give.

Sven's a wildcard for the Chelsea job IMHO, although Mancini's probably the man

As for Hughes, Man City would be an ideal step up for him, although then how could he go from City to United when Fergie retires?

Well I mean he could, but he'd become quite hated that's for sure.
