Swan

Bit hard for Ellard to pick him up, considering Ellard is playing in the reserves this week.

Ellard was dropped, so no. i reckon Gibbs has to go with him, AJ is too small

would you stop using gibbs as a tagger and think about using him as an attacking player and actually win the game!

He suposed to be one of our best kickers, why waste him by making him tag?

DUMB!

Hey DUMB,

If I was your manager, and I told you play a role for the team...you would do it, full stop. If Ratten decides to rotate Gibbs to Swan so be it. Good players make sacrifices for the team when called for. Some of this talk if hyperfetical.

I dont think anyone in the game can go one on one with Swan. Swan is a burst player, sprinting for 5 minutes, then going off for 2. His running and excersize patterns are different to Carrots, Ellards ect. A rotation of players running with Swan is probably the best answer.

I think you mean coach.

Carrazzo is the ideal matchup. Swans disposal is a little shaky at best. Apply some pressure we could get ourselves some nice turnovers. Ellard's not playing. Is there any other midfielder they have worth tagging? Big mistake going in too defensive in this game. Lets put the best midfield talent in the middle, and let them do the worrying.

:)

I believe that Ratts will play Gibbs and Carrots off of Swan. Gibbs will have 28 to 35 possessions which may be slightly (2 to 4) total less than Swan but have a feeling that his will be much more damaging.

I'm expecting Collingwood to win but not because of Swan.

I believe we should put Murphy in a head-to-head with Swan. I have watched quite a few Pies games, and a bit like Judd, Swan just follows the pill and doesn't pay alot of respect to his opponents.

Murph, when running free gets into many dangerous positions, and whilst Swan may get 10 more possessions, Murph can be more damaging overall.

I also think Gibbs should play against Pendlebury, but not in a tagging role. IMO Gibbs has gone a bit backwards this year, and it could be a result of Ratten telling him that he has to tag the oppositions most damaging player. Tell me what number 1 pick has to go out and tag every week... its ludicrous.

If Ratten showed a bit more faith in Gibbs, and just let him do his thing, he will develop to the stage that other teams will have to start tagging him.

The two players that we should look at tagging are Didak and Thomas. Thomas has improved out of sight this year and gives the Pies alot of run an carry (similar to what Simmo does for us). And if you give Dids a bit of space he will kill you. The two players I would play on those would be Army/Ellard depending on which one plays), and Joey.

I would also have Carrazzo play on Beams, as IMO he plays in important role in shutting down a damaging player, but also providing some run the other way.

I'm with you, have no sources of my own, but after last week Ellard was never going to be dropped. there will be a late withdrawal for sure.

 He did get dropped.

The MC picked the team that they were hoping could play.

We wouldn't insult him, or play around with his confidence like that if we knew someone like Armfield definitely had no chance of playing.

I think you'll find that it is a lack of faith with some of our other players, and not Gibbs.

reply to johnydees: Don't worry too much about Thomas etc : all the stats that matter show that Swan is around the 80% mark . I believe if you pressure Swan when he has the ball or restrict his possies then you will minimise the impact of Thomas and the lesser likes . These guys are taking the chances and backing Swan winning and delivering . Ellard is playing for his future , Sydney or the bush for him . No tomorrow , play today . Pure shut down role . On a positive not good inclusions for the Blues are Cloke and Brown , along with L.Brown these guys will help the Blues.

Why drop a player if the club were going to play him?

And why pick a player who you will drop on game day to play someone you originally dropped?

If Army is injured, that's another story
