With the team not going great atm, we are being carried by our older and experienced players. Goodes, CBolts, JBolts, Kirk, ROK, Jolly have been our best this year and the next tier of players hasnt stepped up to help them as much as we need to get us in the 8.

Anyway, what i was wondering is how many of these guys are in serious consideration for AA? Often we hear about how the more successful teams get rewarded for their form when it comes to AA selection, but if these guys kept playing out of their skins and carrying us as they have yet we don't make the finals or are eliminated in the 1st round (for argument's sake) what are the chances that 3 or 4 of these guys would be picked? (assuming no injuries of course)

Goodesy/CBolts (assuming he is at the same level he was before his injury)/Jolly/ROK (assuming his output continues) would all have to be in the running for a spot surely. And though i think Kirky and JBolts are definitely worthy i reckon they won't get a look in due to there relatively low profile and their "workman" status.

So thoughts?

Jolly
C Bolton

Goodes maybe.

Kirk and Bolton won't be. Their always this consistent and only got rewarded when our team was premeiership contenders.
Don't forgot the class of the Geelong and STK midfield.
They don't compare.

The players you mentioned would surely be short listed at a minimum. Maybe not Jude, but i'd say if ROK can keep up his current form until the end of the season i'd be surprised if he didn't at least get on the bench.

Cox picks himself as ruck unfortunately, but Jolly IMO is easily the 2nd best ruckman in the comp.

Bolton is on the heels of Scarlett, Fisher and Presti for a starting position. Goodes should just be in the team.I have Jolly as second ruck behind Cox. Sandilands could easily take his spot. ROK is still behind a few after a poor start to the year. J.Bolton about 4 spots from making the squad of 40. Kirk probably not going to make it. That's about it, unless Shaw regains some form.

Seriously Goodesy is a given,

Jolly to fight with Sandilands for 1st Ruck, maybe on interchange

B2, Kirky should be in, doubtful B1 and ROK, unless they continue at the same way they are playing atm. But remembering also they pick the "winning" sides before the "losing" sides, ie i mean Cats, Saints, Pies will come before the Swans.

Not really. Is he in the 6-7 best midfielders this year? I would say he is behind about 15 at least. Montagna, Hayes, Dal Santo, Ablett and Judd are must picks. Selwood and Goodes get the bench.

You just have to look at the competition for midfieldrrd
Nothing is a given

If it was selected today Goodes would probably be the only definite. If C.Bolton, O'Keefe and Jolly keep up their excellent form all year then they'll go close. Very difficult team to crack though.

I can't see O'Keefe being near the squad any time soon. There are too many players ahead of him. The slow start was poor and you can't ignore that when doing an AA side for the whole season. If he continues his current form for the rest of the season, then he will go close, but at the moment he is behind other players.

IN
D Jolly - wins all the hitouts, all rounded game, very consistent

POSSIBLE
C Bolton - quality and form he should be in, but he would of had equal reasons to the acclaim last year, but he was snubbed.... the swans aren't a very fashionable club atm, and it shows in the AA list

A Goodes - depends on how consistently he performs

RANK OUTSIDER
R O'Keefe - all class, but had a slow start, and the midfield is a vey hard position to break into

VERY RANK OUTSIDERS
J Bolton - midfield very hard to break into; doesn't use the ball well enough to be among AA selection

B Kirk - midfield very hard to break into; was playing much poorer earlier in the season

Jolly and Sandilands surely would be the rucks at this stage, Cox has been down on form but will probly get selected anyway.
Goodes should get in if he keeps his consistency up, he'd have a fair few brownlow votes.
C Bolton has been very good and consistant since 05 but has only been rewarded once (06) so may make the squad but probly won't be in the side.
J Bolton would surely come up in discussions but probly won't get selected. ROK has been a star of late but the slow start to the season may hurt him.

Despite his being from Sydney, Jolly would surely be in the top 2-3, and despite what statistics apparently indicate, Cox has been ordinary this year, and more importantly has been copping it in the Vic media for his poor form and attitude. Jolly would be ahead of Cox at the moment.

Goodes maybe, C Bolton maybe, but right now Jolly would be the only genuine chance.

Jolly has been outstanding this season, but so have Cox, Sandi and even Mcintosh. Jolly deserves a spot, but may be pipped as those three have all had great years aswell.

Cox may still play okay at Subi but, like the Weagles, his form on the road has been ... well, the word apathetic springs to mind.

Sandilands, yes, but Cox and McIntosh?

Michael Gardiner at St Kilda is ahead of those blokes, on what I've seen, or Paddy Ryder.

But Jolly would be right up with them.

Come on, surely Gardiner isn't ahead of MacIntosh. MacIntosh has just about been the only play the Roos have had this year, and Gardiner while being much improved on his form over the last few years (mostly as he has been injured a lot admittedly) hasn't been as good around the ground or in the ruck as Hamish, i wouldnt have thought.

I'd be picking Sandilands as number one ruckman and Jolly on the bench personally, but i reckon Cox will find his way into the squad on the back of his extraordinary numbers he has had this year, depsite his form generally being noted as below his best.

CBolts (as long as his form dosnt drop too much when back from injury) should make the backline and Goodesy has been getting pretty wide acknowledgement for his renewed form so i reckon he will be in the team as well, either on the wing or HFF.
