THE SWANS will consider trying to put Carlton spearhead Brendan Fevola off his game, defender Leo Barry says.

St Kilda's Max Hudghton got under Fevola's skin to great effect last week, restricting him to three goals and eight kicks in Carlton's 32-point loss.
"That's probably not the way we play in our defence … [but] if you do try to put him off his game, look it's something that might be used," Barry said today.

"We generally don't do it but it was pretty effective for Max last week and put [Fevola] off his game, so it's something to discuss during the week."
In one game-changing incident, Fevola conceded a 50-metre penalty after responding to Hudghton's taunts by pushing the Saint in the face.
Fevola was soon benched, and watched from the pine as St Kilda turned a four-point deficit into a 14-point lead.

Barry has played on Fevola a number of times and could get the job on Sunday, and he described the Carlton forward – who has scored 64 goals in 15 games this season – as a "formidable" opponent.

fev has to get use to iy untill we get another good forward he will be targeted and will have to fix himself so he doesnt go stupid.

Unfortunately Fev has shown he can't be 'fixed'. He just can't control his emotions enough to not go off. If he can kick 1 or 2 early on, usually he stays on the entire game, if a quarter goes dry for him he can SOMETIMES just go uninterested.

Fev could have done better, no doubt, but I thought he did ok considering I wanted to flatten that Hudghton guy just watching him on TV...:o

I just hope Fev has a great game and hopefully kicks a bag, though we will need a nice spread of goal kickers.

haha, since whens Fev needed any 'rattling'?

Hes a gun though, best full forward going around at the moment!

Why would they bother?

Just do what every other team does at the Dome. Zone off and take his space. Fev's mental attitude will take care of itself from there.

The only teams he has scored against have been playing him one out in an open fwd line at the G.

I actually hope the Swans defenders do try something different.......it may just distract them from actually doing the above and winning the game.

The reason teams can afford to zone off in the backline and crowd Fev is because we don't have any HF players who are kicking goals from 40+ metres out.

Apart from getting a CHF with a good kick, improvement in the ruck will also help, with our midfielders getting more oppurtunities as a result - ie; Judd, Stevo, Walker running towards the 50 arc.

Even if we don't have a decent CHF next year, improvement in the ruck alone will create oppurtunities, not only for our running midfielders, but also ruckman floating into the forward line.

Would then make sense to play Fev closer to the 50 metre arc then wouldnt if they keep zoning back in his space!!

Could be an interesting thing to try, and bring in Hartlett for Full forward.

Not as a permanent move but to rattle the Swans a bit.

If Hartlett performs at FF and doesn't get injured swap them back over.

Worked well for a period last year, most notably the Dogs win at the G, and the Crows game at the Dome, where Fev took Rutten up to CHF and Fisher and Waite did loads of damage runing back into the space.

Unlucky not to pinch that game.

I think Fev should do it as a mix up. It forces us to look for other options, and his field kicking is great. Would make a good CHF, but doesn't have the engine.:thumbsu:

Bring in Harts, or just push Edwards, Cloke, Fisher (not all at once :o) into the space behind Fev.:thumbsu:

maby ratten can fool Sydney's plans and play him up the field or he gan give em the slip the more they have on fev leaves us with no man
so we will have plenty of free players use fev as a Decoy:) until Sydney mades a stuffup shame halls not playing we can try that tactic :)
who every Sydney has as their forward lets tripple tag em ;)
and really flood their forwards line with out Buchanan and Hall they are light on :thumbsu:
and we got the home crowd and lets Sydney leave with nothing ;)

Hopefully the Swans can rattle his brain a little while they're at it to get him to sign his damn contract!

Isn't Fev already shaken don't think he needs much help to get rattled. I am over his shit and I am sure lots of Carlton fans are getting there as well. We will not win a flag with Fev in the team I think it's time we show him the door. He can become someone else's problem. He is 27 and still hasn't woken up doubt he will ever wake up.
