Reid is not in our top ten players.

top 10 importance, not best. I would probably say the same for Smith.

9. AJ (plays like a veteran already)
10. LRT (should be a 2 time norm smith medalist)

It was tough finding another couple of players to fill the slots. We have a very even team :)

These threads really only work when the criteria is properly defined. Top 10 is too subjective. Does it mean Top 10 based on form last year? Over their careers? Expectations for this year? Best performed? Most Important?

I'll do a list of who I deem to be our most important players:

1. Kennedy
2. Mumford
3. Goodes
4. Reid
5. Jetta
6. Tippett
7. Richards
8. McVeigh
9. Jack
10. ROK

1. Kennedy
2. Goodes
3. O'Keefe
4. Richards
5. McVeigh
6. Jack
7. Hannebery
8. Jetta
9. Tippett
10. Shaw

I agree with the above poster, it must be more clearly defined I have just done this in terms of quality. It's just based on talent, if it was in terms of importance it'd probably be a little different.

You're dead right. Can I re-define the parameters in terms of importance. What players are hardest to replace. I think that's a more interesting exercise ...

Good list and I'm not necessarily disagreeing but does the fact that we did so well despite Mumford and Goodes being sidelined for so much of the year (and for long stretches in the GF) make you re-think how important they are?

Personally, I don't know what I think about that particular question but I would have Ted higher.

Good point regarding Mumford and Goodes, but I honestly don't know the answer either.

As for Ted... the only reason I had him behind some of the other players is because I see both Johnson and LRT as excellent ready made replacements. The others on the list don't really have the same quality backing up their roles.

1 Kennedy
2 Goodes
3 Richards
4 McVeigh
5 Hannebery
6 O'Keefe
7 Reid
8 Mumford
9 Johnson
10 Jetta
11 Grundy (just for Stat)

Could be underrating Jetta's importance, he was the reason we were able to run the "slingshot" style of play. I think he is of massive importance to the Swans whole game plan

Would like to include Tippett on the list as I think he is one of our top ten players going forward, But seeming he hasn't played a game yet not going to include him.

Best players

1. Kennedy
2. Richards
3. Goodes
4. McVeigh
5. ROK
6. Mumford
7. Hanners
8. Jetta
9. Jack
10. Reid

Importance
1. Richards
2. Kennedy
3. Goodes
4. Jetta
5. Reid
6. Smith
7. Johnson
8. Mumford
9. McVeigh
10. ROK

Based on my own criteria and therefore indisputable:

Goodes - irreplacable
Kennedy - nearly irreplacable!
ROK - underrated even by Swan's fans
Jack - dynamic
Jetta - no substitute for pace
McVeigh - courage
Richards - role player
Hanneberry - gun
Shaw - his run from the back half is very important
Smith - need his lockdown

Missing Mumford...Pyke can slot in easily.

And we won a flag without Tippett, Tippett hasn't played a game yet, how can he be in our best or most important?

Love pre-season arguments over things that haven't happened.

He can still be considered in our best or most important for the upcoming season. I'd say Essendon fans would have Goddard in their best and most valuable.

Certainly their most valuable if he is going to be their only player over 18 for the second half of the year.

So if you were starting a team from scratch by recruiting players from other teams there wouldn't be a 10 most important or 10 best players?

Tippett once he joins the team will be pretty important player, and take over the mantle as number one forward.*

*If anyone says Reid would still be our number one forward I will end them.
So Reid has to take 15 marks and kick half a dozen a week to be our best forward ? Do you have Any idea what role Reid played in 2012 as a 20yr old Premiership CHF ? Up the ground lead up target CHF being trailed by opposition best defender and two outed in most marking contests. End them ? WTF ?

Goodes going out of the side started the biggest losing streak of the season. He was better in the GF on one leg than quite a few players were on two. Don't think his importance is being underestimated although it has to start to fade now that he is aging.
