Anyone going? I'm playing the 3rd flight 1st event next Friday and the teams event on the Tuesday after. If anyone is going from here post a message and I'll PM you so we can grab a beer or whatever.

Thinking about going but not 100% sold on it. For me the cost of travel (esp Sydney accom) doesnt make the trip very worth it so my recreational part of my brain will be the one that decides.

I said it would depend how the weeks leading up to it turn out and so far they havent been great

I'd thought about it but it coincides with the Melbourne International Film Festival, so no can do.

Ended up only playing two events, had to leave early due to a family issue. Played the opening flight as stated above; hadn't slept for about 30 hours before play started and was reflected in my play. 6 bet all in with K J off and ran into KK, end of tourney.

Played the 6 max some days later, more rest, played well, came 24th out of 141. The standard of play in both events was quite poor, hence I found it easy to pick up chips in the 2nd event (and hence why my KJ 6 bet all in was prett poor play as well, given easy chips to be had). For example, I raise from late position with 7 7, get a call from BB, flop comes down K, 6, 4 rainbow. I c-bet, get a call, turn is a 2, check check. Board pairs 4s on the river. BB leads out for potsized bet. I snap it over and he turns over Q J for Q high.

Was the chip leader at one stage: lost momentum when I flopped Aces up vs a set, then the table conditions changed where I had this compulsive 3 bettor come to the table (who was 3 betting out of a stack that couldn't support it, committing himself apparently to his hand - so basically a bad player) and was in the BB when I had the button, so therefore I had to get tighter with my opens. Anyway, lost traction on the field, ended up getting it in with JJ vs AQ pre (4 bet with around 25 BB), villain flops a Q, turns a needless A, and I bomb out.

Can recommend it, just because the level of play was so poor. There were professional players there as well, but the ones I played against, even those were not really up to scratch. Apart from the fish there were also bad players playing sort of "book" poker, opening a lot of pots, but we didn't start deep, only 10k, and they were doing this pre-antes. It's a level above pub poker, NPL, APL 888 or whatever, but only just above.

Pretty sure dudes like Brendon Rubie and Ben Delaney etc played, but didn't run into players like them. The pros I ran into were Americans or Canadians doing a tour from their base in Thailand. As I said, despite their credentials they weren't impressive players and made numerous bad plays while I was with them.
