Brisbane lost their's (thanks eddie) years ago - which should mean the interstate reasoning is a double standard one. Cost of living isn't really a big factor/difference these days.

You just win the premiership and then go out and spend $1 million on a new player, CRAZY!

Sydney may have shot themselves in the foot regarding the extra cap space by signing Tippett. Wouldn't look that great to other teams or the AFL that they can give up an extra million in their cap after winning the flag, a team thats been in the comp for 20+ years still gets salary cap assistance seems a bit silly to me. Especially for the out-dated reasons. Personally I don't think its really fair...

The whole of Australia in has a high cost of living - maybe everyone should get an extra million in their cap.

Explain to me then why the NRL or Union or A League Sydney teams don't have extra in their salary caps...

salary caps are alot smaller to start with. and there's not as much money in those sports as there is AFL.

a-league is almost a one team a city competition. so extra salary cap money is pointless. you'd have to give it to every club. plus the a-league struggles financially as it is.
union same thing. there's only 5 australian teams in a competition that spans 3 countries. the same rule would have to apply to a team,if eligible, from all countries.
rugby league is poorly ran and has been for some time. it's only played along the east coast, where the majority of teams being in sydney (highest cost of living) so storm, qld teams and nz teams aren't really eligible for such a concession.

just my two cents though.
as a sydney fan, i don't really agree with the concession (voted no on principle :p), though I think we would almost fit Tippett in regardless. It's only in a few years we will struggle with how good some of our younger players are going to be.

EDIT: really only just properly read your quote. If the NRL gave the Sydney teams the concession, they'd run out of money. It only applies to the AFL and no other sport cuz there's 7 melbourne teams and was only one Sydney team. It was voted on by presidents from other clubs including Jeff Kennett, the issue has only been bought up since the interest in Tippett. It never has been before.

Fair enough. But with the average salary of a an AFL footballer reaching almost 300k a year. Cost of living doesn't effect a decision to move there... Back when it was on average say 100k I see it's validity. But not when where getting 10 million dollar salary caps...

Basically I don't agree with your arugments, they seem a little to narrow minded in terms of explaining your reasoning. About the others having smaller salary caps, that infact should mean they need the concessions. As cost of living obviously becomes more of a factor when smaller salaries.

I've got two questions, is the swans minimum wage 10% higher than every other clubs. What about staff wages, does the AFL add 10% to their wages as they obviously live in Syd as well?

Yeah dude I agreed when I said I don't think we should have it now. Back then yes. But not now.

Your two questions..I couldn't tell you. Other clubs have concessions don't they? (GC,GWS etc)

I've also lived in both Melbourne and Sydney and I don't recall Sydney being any harder in terms of $$. From what I recall there's nothing seperating Melbourne and Sydney.
