Since its open season on threads I thought I'd start another.

For a long while now I have noticed the Crows constant ability to completely miss tackles or let players slip through multiple tackles.

It came to my attention in the '05 prelim, I think it was Cousins who waltzed around 3 or 4 Crows players who made little or no attempt to actually tackle.

Don't get me wrong we have a few players who can really tackle, Johncock being one of them but even he often gets brushed aside easily.

Now I'm not talking the around the ball stuff when people everyone is flat footed, I'm talking about oppoistion players running around Crows players or simply brushing an poor attempt at a tackle away.

I guess with the population of supporters we have someone may be able to explain why we are so poor at this particular skill?

Are we bad or is a general competition thing that Karmichael Hunt may fix.

Agree that we seem to let players brush tackles too easily. I've been wiling to put it down to young bodies just needing another preseason weights program. Would like to see it improve next year though as I think its the difference between St Kilda's "frontal pressure" game and ours. The Saints' set up is much harder to run through than ours is.

I've noticed this, too. A lot of times I see Porps go to tackle but he just falls short of the player and I think, "GAH WHY?!" So many attempts to tackle the opposition seem really half-hearted.

Yes, I have noticed this as well.

Also, we can't run away from the fact, that aside from his lazy 5 goals against the inept Bombers last week, Porps has been very ordinary in finals.

IMO, he can't be considered an elite player until he turns it on - when it really matters - in September.

Porps had a pretty handy last quarter, to help us back in it when he was pushed to the midfield. Our tackling was good in the first and second quarter and fell off due to fatigue. Still needs improving sure but it's not diabolically bad.

I reckon his shoulder is suspect again.

We need to look at 2 or so players, either via the trade or draft, who are natural tough players and tackle accordingly, preferably a small forward crumber ala Matty Bode.

I think Goody is one of our worst offenders at missing tackles. So often he lunges forward and just slips the tackle.

You need someone like a Swallow, 152 tackles in his 22 games this year at an average of 6.9 per game.

Our inability to make a tackle stick is wasting our 'frontal pressure'. If Craigy wants to continue to use a zone it is paramount that we work on this skill.

Also a fast forwardline crumber is absolutely key.

I want to reiterate that the youth of Dangerfield, Sloane and Petrenko/Cook could be the key.

If we don't trade for a decent small, quick, tackling forward this off season i would love Petrenko to be developed as an option down there. People say he is a defender but hey he is only 20! Pace and crazy attack on man and ball:thumbsu: With Danger going to the midfield to form a premiership group with Vince, Thompson, Sloane and Mackay, we'll definitely need some more pace and aggression down there.

Tough sides tackle well, we are not a tough side. Come on down Sloane, Mckernan, Petrenko.
Whilst I agree with the sentiment, specifying unproven players who can't make the side destroys the point.

If you'd said we can DEVELOP these guys into that, well, what a good point you would have made.
