I have great expectations from Tambling and I've been wondering what's holding him back from really having an impact on games. Confidence is a usual suspect but where does confidence come from when you've cemented your spot in the senior side?
I think Tambling's still a little a bit overawed by the big bodies he's put up against and he's a bit hesitant. Might some gym work and added bulk to his frame over the preseason be the catalyst for him to start tearing games apart? Deledio did all that last preseason but it hasn't seen him come on as I expected (high, maybe unrealistic, expectations.)
I think he needs that peace of mind that he weighs as much or nearly as much as the next bloke, to gain his confidence.

There's been a million Tambling threads but I thought I'd make it a million and one anyway.

I think that Tambling is a bit scared ATM to get hit in case he gets hurt or injured, no doubting his talent but that is what I think the main problem is for him, he does show a bit sometimes that shows hes gotten over it but I think next year he will show us what he really has to offer.

I thought he played very well last night. His bursts were great. I think this year has definitely been a pretty solid one for him, he just needs to be a bit more consistent I guess. But as long as he keeps making those runs like he did tonight I'll be happy.

very happy with Richie...will be a definite game breaker.....he will take longer than a lot of boys his age to develop but in a few yrs could be anything! That goal he kicked last night ....well that just shows his talent.

need to get him out of the forward line, it promotes lazyness

give him a job and some responsibility

Coming out of the NT and with only 2 preseason in him he simply doesn't have the stamina yet to play midfield, or in anything else than little bursts. He was never going to do too much in his first 3-4 years. You know that on draft day. At other clubs he might not even be playing yet.

geez thats a tough call indeed weaver, I dont think thered be a side out there he wouldnt be getting a regular senior game..

Not a criticism of the kid, just a reflection of where he is at in his development.

If Brown, Newman and Coughlan were fit he could easily be the one squeezed out. Probably find JON, Meyer and Tambling rotating through the spot.

He wouldn't be assured of a game at Geelong for example with Paul Koulouriotis, Matthew Stokes, James Kelly in the reserves.

Tambling could well become a very very good player in time, but right now, round 21 2006 - he isn't really commanding a place in the team. He wouldn't force his way into the top-4 teams.

Mitch Morton (WCE) for example would have played 30 games with us by now but only 1 with the Eagles.

It ain't about where they are now, it is about where they are in 4-5 years.

I think the kid is getting better and better, starting to do some smart things, still inexperienced and as everyone else has said needs to put on some more weight, that will come in time.

Seriously think all signs are heading in the right direction and if he keeps improving the way he has he will be a top player for us by the time he is about 23-24.

His confidence is certainly picking up, you can see it in the way he takes players on with his pace. I don't think he'll ever be a 30+ disposal player, but you know every time he gets it that something will happen.

He looks to have got his body right and you can see he's making progress with every game. When Tambling is 21 he will be miles in front of Davey at the same age.

He's fantastic overhead, has amazing closing speed, beautiful goal kicker on the run, if anything his biggest weakness is his set shots. Doesn't need to pile on the weight, just add a small amount slowly each year until he's around 80-82kg.

As Greg Miller said when we took Tambling and when we took Oakley-nicholls, these two guys might not be consitently 30+ possy getters but they have the capablitlies to blow a game open in 20minutes. Thats good enough for me.

People always forget that compared to the other 4 in the 2004 draft, he is from NT and doesnt have the same footy development they had and will take a few more season to really make an impact.

If he keeps kicking goals like the one he roved of richo in the 2nd quarter last night i'll be very happy.

Thats why in the upcoming draft we need 2 get a more natural midfielder (eg. selwood) to feed the ball out to our super-quick, highly-skilled running players such as tambling and JON.

Ill admit that when i saw that we had taken Tambling over Franklin with our #4 pick i wasnt exactly thrilled, with our lacking of young KPP's at the time. But as this year has gone on he has won me over with his solid skills and crumbing ability. He has matchwinner written all over him and with just a slight adition to his body weight he will be a great player for years. Franklin will also no doubt be a good player, but i think we have made the right choice here

i forgot to add his kicking is a bit up and under, sand wedge-ish. he will improve to be on of our key movers very soon

The reasson he wouldn't be playing in a top 4 side is because there too good.

We are rebuilding and are just trying to get as much experience into our young players as possible, as has been said with many players this year and Kepler Bradley this week was that its all a learning curve at this age and we are playing him to learn the riggors of AFL where as a team like West Coast can leave the younger players out because they've already got a good side.

We know that Tambling has very good pace but when coupled with his evasive skills, he is very hard to catch. A few times last night, he seemed more willing to run at players, only to drop them off with a well timed baulk.
