They should go the NBA model and for the sides that don't play in the finals do a lottery to determine what number each club gets (out of picks 1-8).
The NBA lottery doesnt prevent tanking, just look at how the 2006-07 season ended up. Teams still get accused of 'tanking' because a 25% shot at the number one pick is better than a 0.5% chance. Currently the NBA is copping a lot of criticism over both how its draft positions are allocated and also how the finals seeding works (I mention this as a lot of people in other threads are suggesting AFL conferences also, which is the NBA's biggest problem at the moment).
Priority picks are the biggest problem with the AFL system, not the draft system itself. I really cant be bothered going into why (its friday) but i think the majority of supporters realise this anyway...
