Some say he is the best shut-down KPD in this years draft. At 194cm, he has good height. My opinion is he will go at around pick 20, and the club that picks him should have a solid Key Defender that will be able to take the opposition's best forward in a few years. I think he is 3cm taller than Plowman, although I think Plowman can rebound and shut-down.

Smith played as a defender in all four games he played in at the Under 18 National Championship, playing on Western Australia’s Mason Shaw, South Australian ruckman-cum-forward Brodie Grundy and bottom-age Vic Metro prospect Tom Boyd in what a tough learning curve for him.

He doesn't have a lot of strings to his bow so I could see him slipping to our second round pick. If he does he should be one player we should consider IMO. Picks 12/13 shouldn't be considered on him, too early IMO.

Combine testing will say a lot for him and a lot of other players. Will need to test well in endurance. From what I've heard he has good closing speed and decent endurance. I think Mason Shaw kicked 4 on him, Boyd kicked 3 (Smith was still named in the best that week) and Grundy kicked 3 on him. Not good signs, although he was playing on a quality forward.

He gets outmuscled far too easy.

Plowman and Clurey are better prospects IMO.

Actually, Clurey played on Boyd, and from recollection Grundy didn't [play on him either

I doubt he would go outside the top 25 now that the Saints don't have any key defenders. If Adelaide aren't stripped of their picks, then they might also be keen on Smith with Rutten nearing the end of his career.
