Now, living under the many fabrications and falses of football is Collingwood's unheralded hero. This man goes about his business, week in, week out, and is always copping slander, not from opposition supporters, but his own supporters. The reason utilised by these supporters? He has poor judgement, makes too many errors, and has terrible kicking. The stats, however, prove otherwise.

Works hard off the ball

It's not as if he doesn't use the ball either.

He does what any good backman should, and rebounds well from 50.

And people who use leg speed as a reason for not liking him cannot really use that as an excuse either, as the stats show it is pretty obvious he knows he can't outrun too many people, so he doesn't try to.

So why is everyone so against Lockyer? The same stats could also provide an argument for O'Bree.

He's no star but he serves his purpose. It's gotten embarassing how much our own fans have made him the universal scapegoat though.

Prefer him off a wing myself rather than trying to hold down the oppo short people in a back pocket.

He plays his role as a utility week in week out. Like watching him at half forward though.

I don't know if he's a star but he's the type of player that does his job in a quiet fashion without no fuss or fanfare. Every team as a player where the supporters bag. I cannot work that out myself.

Ok, I'll say it. He's physically weak in a contest ( not interested in how much he can bench press ), and he is really not overly courageous.
He often pretends he is trying to spoil but his efforts are pathetic. I know truly courageous players are hard to find, ( Gavin Brown ) but there is a reason supporters turn on him. Give me Nick Maxwell and Heath Shaw any day.

Ask Jeff Farmer how he rates Tarks.

If Iles can take the next step Tarks would struggle to get a game, however, Malthouse loves him.
He's not a tough customer (on the field) -courage leaves little to be desired.
He's not a quick decision maker and that sometimes leaves him in a pickle.
But he just goes about his business without fuss and rarely do you see him not put in on the track. He's a good team player in that respect.

clap.clap.clap, he is also not a smart footballer, he cannot play on the smart small forwards (farmer, milne and co)

Agreed physical contests and courage is not his forte. Thats why I feel a more forward role suits him better.

He is the best passer to a leading forward in the team outside of maybe Bucks only.

he was in our best 5 or 6 when he went down with an ACL i am still hoping he can regain that form, but it is pretty tough to come back from something like that!

With all due respect i'm not interested in players that are good blokes or put in on the track. Give me Martin Pike any day. I'd rather a bloke who is of questionable character who can REALLY play than Lee Walker who is a great bloke.
